Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

The host response against the coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) appears to be mediated by a 'cytoquine storm' developing a systemic inflammatory mechanism and an acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), in the form of a bilateral pneumonitis, requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in an important group of patients. In terms of preventing progression to the critical phase with the consequent need of admission to the intensive care units (ICU), it has been recently proposed that this inflammatory cytoquine-mediated process can be safely treated by a single course of ultra-low radiotherapy (RT) dose < 1 Gy. The main purpose of the study was to analyze the efficacy of ultra low-dose pulmonary RT, as an anti-inflammatory intention in patients with SARS-Cov-2 pneumonia with a poor or no response to standard medical treatment and without IMV.

This study will collect data on physical activity, food consumption, stress, sleep, and alcohol consumption habits both before and after the national emergency for COVID-19 was put into place. This will help identify the health behavior changes taking place due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Data on past and current health behaviors will be self-reported by participants via a single online survey. The retrospective health behavior questions will be the same quantitative questions as the current health behavior questions so a direct comparison can be made. There will be a couple qualitative questions to assess what each participant feels are the greatest barriers or impacts to their current health behaviors. Participants will be recruited via convenient sampling. Data collected in this study will show a decline in at least one healthy behavior after the United States national emergency for COVID-19.

The novel coronavirus SARS-CoV2 clinically presents with pneumonia, characterised by fever, cough, dyspnea. The severity of the disease varies widely with evidence of mild disease in the majority of confirmed cases, severe pneumonia-dyspnea, hypoxia or lung involvement at imaging within 24-48 hours- and critical disease with respiratory failure, shock or multi-organ failure in particular patient cohorts. Imaging plays a key role is diagnosis and progression of this disease.

It might be necessary with Sars-Cov2 pneumopathy patient to repeat thoracic images, the tomodensitometry ones in particular. This task is difficult and nearly impossible for several reasons: respiratory and hemodynamic unstable patient, prone position and due to the high contagious nature of the disease. The lung ultrasound is an easy tool, fast (between 5 and 10 minutes) and as a limited training. In the context of the Sars-Cov2 epidemic, Buonsenso and al case report depict the first lung ultrasound for a Covid 19 patient. Peng and al in Intensive Care Medicine accentuate the usefulness of this particular technic. In the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, a study has been published as a point-of-care, in which the doctors reported using the lung ultrasound with intensive and critical care patient. In Critical Care 2016, it has been showed that ultrasound allowed with neat precisions, to predict severe ARDS patient response to the prone position, all-cause. Another researchers team found a good correlation between lung ultrasound, the SOFA, APACHE II, CPIS score, and patient mortality. And a new applicability in the pulmonary recruitment by PEEP titration has been presented. The aim of this study is to evaluate the lung ultrasound in Covid19 ARDS.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals are having to stay at home in quarantine to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus. Depending on the number of occupants and the dwelling space available, this can lead to household crowding, which can have an effect on mental health. In addition, the closing of leisure facilities, including restaurants, cafes and, with the need to self-isolate and socially distance, has led to loneliness. The focus on "loneliness" has recently been on a rise, and being described as an epidemic, especially when it has been shown to be associated with various diseases as well as increased risk of mortality. Studies conducted on participants in isolation has shown increased mental health issues including anxiety, stress and depression. Mindfulness intervention has been shown to alleviate mental health issues including loneliness. However, to date, there is limited studies examining the effectiveness of a remote mindfulness intervention. This proposal aims to deliver a remote mindfulness program that can be accessible by participants easily and even during the isolation period. This intervention will investigate the effectiveness and safety in elevating mental health issues faced by the general population.

Among patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, approximately 20% have an acute kidney injury (AKI) and 5% require renal replacement therapy. Occurrence of AKI in patients with COVID-19 is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Early detection of patients at risk of AKI would allow to prevent onset or worsening of AKI. The aim of this study is to determine if urine biomarkers of renal tubular damage such as TIMP-2 and IGFBP7 could early identify patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia at risk of developing AKI.

There is urgent need of an effective therapy for Covid-19. To date, the best treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection is unknown. Baricitinib has been identified as potential treatment for 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease, because of its immunomodulating and hypothesized antiviral activity. This is a multicenter randomized clinical trial that aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of baricitinib in patients with SARS-CoV2 pneumonia. Patients will be randomized to receive or not baricitinib as adjunctive therapy. All patients will continue to receive the ongoing standard therapy: chloroquine/idrossichloroquine and low-molecular weight heparin (LMWH) eventually associated with ritonavir/lopinavir or darunavir/ritonavir will be allowed for all included patients. The primary endpoint measure is the efficacy of baricitinib in reducing the number of patients requiring invasive ventilation after 7 and 14 days of treatment. Secondary endpoints will be mortality rates and toxicity of baricitinib.
