Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This study intends to find out how a cloth mask may impact exercise capacity, to provide guidance for exercisers to adjust their expectations and training accordingly. The investigators plan to asses exercise capacity through estimated peak oxygen consumption (eVO2peak), oxygen saturation and level of perceived exertion during treadmill based exercise while wearing a cloth mask compared to exercising without a cloth mask. The potential significance of this study is to determine if subjects can exercise safely and if their exercise training needs to be adjusted while following the current recommendations of wearing a cloth mask in public. The degree of airflow limitation experienced will depend on the type and fit of the mask being worn, and inadequeate airflow could possibly result in CO2 re-breathing if all air was not fully discharged from the mask with each breath. This re-breathing of CO2 could potentially limit the workload leading to a detriment in performance, and increase in adverse symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, chest pain or shortness of breath that does not improve with rest.

The actual worldwide context (disease outbreak, confinements instaured in many countries) is a stressful factor for many people. It can have consequences on mental health : separation from loved ones, loss of freedom, uncertainty about infection status, boredom. Patients with mental disorders are especially vulnerable. On march 17th, the french government ordonned a national confinement to slow the progression of the COVID-19 outbreak, for 15 days at first then renewed several times. This situation has led to a reorganization of care as requested on March 22nd, 2020 in the recommendations applicable to the organization of care in psychiatric services : priority to telephone contacts and teleconsultation by multiplying contacts and assessments. By the time the reorganization of care became operational, the most vulnerable patients may have experienced a decompensation of their disease. It is important to know if the COVID-19 outbreak combined with the confinement increased the number of unvoluntary commitment the month after the announce of the confinement. This could help us understand which patients are more vulnerable is this context, and improve our organization (ambulatory and hospitalization care) if this situation occurs again.

Critically ill patients with COVID-19 have hospitalized in an ICU due to the closer monitoring and therapy. In fact, ICU admissions are dependent on the severity of illness and the ICU capacity of the health-care system. Hence, it may be need a new scoring system for contagious critically ill patients.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a global pandemic and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The mortality rate for COVID-19 patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) who require mechanical intubation is approximately 75%. While the pathophysiology of severe COVID-19 has yet to be fully understood, it is possible that a combination of high viral loads and an overactive dysregulated inflammatory response may contribute. Therefore, the clearance of SARS-CoV-2 virus and cytokines could provide a more opportunistic environment for the innate immune system to clear the virus and establish lasting immunity. The Seraph®-100 Microbind® Affinity Blood Filter (Seraph®-100) is an extracorporeal broad-spectrum sorbent hemoperfusion filter for removing virus and cytokines from the blood. The FDA authorized an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for treatment of severe COVID-19 with the Seraph®-100. As part of the EUA, this registry study will collect de-identified data to assess safety and efficacy on the use of Seraph®-100 Microbind® Affinity Blood Filter in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 present a very high risk of thromboembolic disease. This multicenter, prospective, randomized, event-driven study evaluates rivaroxaban compared with standard of care with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) or unfractionated heparin (UFH) at prophylactic doses comparing D-dimer levels and the seven-category ordinal scale recommended by the WHO 7 days post randomization in patients with moderate to severe COVID-19. Experimental intervention/Index test: Patients randomized into the rivaroxaban arm will receive rivaroxaban 20 mg once daily (OD) until day 7 post randomization or hospital discharge, whichever occurs later, followed by a 28-day-phase of prophylactic anticoagulation with rivaroxaban 10mg OD. Subjects with an eGFR between 30 and 50ml/min/1,73m2, will receive 15mg instead of 20mg OD. Control intervention/Reference test: The control group will receive standard of care including LMWH or UFH as thromboprophylaxis. Duration of intervention per patient: The total duration of the study treatment is flexible. For out-patients 7 days of therapeutic anticoagulation will be accompanied by 28 days-phase of prophylactic anticoagulation, summing up to 35 days. For subjects that require hospitalization, the duration of therapeutic anticoagulation will be at least 7 days or prolonged until discharge if hospitalized for more than 7 days post randomization. After discharge from the hospital the subject receives 28 days of thromboprophylaxis with rivaroxaban. No study medication will be given past day 60 post randomization. This adds up to a study duration between 35 and 60 days depending on the duration of the hospital stay. Follow-up per patient: The study has a follow-up of 60 days. Experimental and/or control off label or on label in Germany: Rivaroxaban has been approved for multiple indications worldwide. Over 100,000 subjects have been studied from Phase 1 through multiple large Phase 4 studies in multiple settings, e.g. for the reduction in the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in arterial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, major cardiovascular events. The drug had not been studied in patients with COVID-19 as an anticoagulant agent, yet.

In response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) outbreak, the home confinement of the population ordered by governments in many countries raise questions about its impact on individuals' physical and mental health in the short and longer term. In children, reduced physical activity, changes in lifestyle, disturbances in sleep patterns, lack of in-person contact with peers, poor or inadequate understanding of health risks may be risk factors of anxiety, stress, fatigue, sleep disorders. These problematic effects could be modulated by social factors (housing in urban or rural areas, availability of personal space at home, parenting stress, etc.).

The FDA has provided an emergency waiver for the use of non-invasive continuous glucose monitors (CGM) in hospitals, so frontline health care providers (in hospitals) can remotely monitor patients with diabetes thus reducing patient's discomfort, limiting exposure to COVID-19 and preserving critical personal protective equipment (PPE). The FreeStyle Libre 14-day system is a continuous glucose monitoring system consisting of a handheld reader (smart phone may be used) and a sensor applied with adhesive to back of the upper arm. In order to evaluate the reliability of the Freestyle Libre CGM for in-patient use, we propose a study which will examine the correlation between the libre CGM data and capillary blood glucose test - the current standard of care taken by the Accuchek Inform II platform.
