Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

In a case-series analysis, up to 20 patients undergoing elective or urgent/emergent surgery that are COVID-19 positive will be approached for patient consent. OR PathTrac (RDB Bioinformatics, Omaha, NE 68154) collection kits will be utilized for sampling of 48 sampled time/locations per patient. Patient sampling locations will include the nasopharynx and oropharynx. Operating room environmental locations will include areas in the patient care arena such as the anesthesia machine. Samples of each location will be obtained before and after treatment with UV-C (Helios, Surfacide), germicidal, ultraviolet light and other infection control practices that are currently in place, such as utilization of preoperative chlorhexidine wipes, nasal iodine, improved hand hygiene, and improved vascular care. UV-C light for environmental cleaning is not regulated by the FDA. Samples will be processed by RT-PCR for presence of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid. Positive samples will be sent to Dr. Stanley Perlman's lab to assess viability. Samples will also be assessed for S. aureus as a process control. We will characterize the epidemiology of perioperative SARS-CoV-2 spread as a quality improvement initiative to improve our current perioperative infection control bundle and to serve as the platform for national dissemination of a perioperative COVID-19 defense strategy.

Phase 2/3 randomized, parallel group, 2-arm study (treatment vs. control), investigating the efficacy and safety of intravenous administration of anakinra, an interleukin 1 receptor antagonist ( IL-1), added to standard treatment, compared to standard treatment alone, to reduce hyperinflammation and respiratory distress in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Coagulopathy of COVID-19 afflicts approximately 20% of patients with severe COVID-19 and is associated with need for critical care and death. COVID-19 coagulopathy is characterized by elevated D-dimer, an indicator of fibrin formation and clot lysis, and a mildly prolonged prothrombin time, suggestive of coagulation consumption. To date, it seems that COVID-19 coagulopathy manifests with thromboembolism, thus anticoagulation may be of benefit. We propose to conduct a parallel pragmatic multi-centre open-label randomized controlled trial to determine the effect of therapeutic anticoagulation compared to standard care in hospitalized patients admitted for COVID-19 with an elevated D-dimer.

By applying polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for Covid-19 to preeclampsia patients who applied to our hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic period, we investigated the frequency of Covid-19 related preeclampsia-like syndrome in this patient group.

It is critical to establish an effective form of telemedicine during the Covid 19 pandemic, that will allow safe social distancing of clinicians and patients. Canniesburn Regional Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit serves as the regional plastic, burns and reconstructive centre for West of Scotland, population 3 million. All face to face clinics have been cancelled and converted to telephone/telemedicine only consultations. The research will establish both 2D and 3D telemedicine as normal patient follow up practice during this period. The project therefore aims to implement a 3D telemedicine system to facilitate patient follow up and remote physiotherapy, that will act as if the patient is physically 'present' in the room. Physiotherapy is crucial to patient outcomes after burns contractures, hand trauma and cancer reconstruction. The 3D telemedicine system will be built by an industrial partner, with CE marked equipment, specifically to help during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Osteosarcopenia designates the simultaneous presence of sarcopenia and osteopenia; both chronic conditions of advanced age. Dynamic-resistance exercise (DRT) might be the most powerful agent to fight osteosarcopenia. Indeed, in the present FrOST study, we clearly determine the positive effect of slightly adapted 18 month high-intensity (HIT)-DRT on bone mineral density (BMD), sarcopenia and other health related parameters in osteosarcopenic men. However, after a short training break, COVID-19 induced lock down prevented a re-start of the HIT resistance exercise training in the FrOST cohort. The aim of the present observational study is thus to determine the effects of 6 months of deconditioning on health related parameters under special regard of osteosarcopenia in this cohort of older men with osteosarcopenia.

With the outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), the frontline medical workers faced enormous stress, including a high risk of infection and inadequate protection from contamination, isolation, patients with negative emotions, a lack of contact with their families, and exhaustion, which may cause mental health problems. The investigators plan to collect the faecal samples and clinical assessments from a part of frontline medical workers in three time points to analyse the changing profile of gut microbiome according to outcomes of 16s rRNA sequencing. The samples from the matched health controls will also be sequenced to compare with the exposed group in gut microbiome community.

The objective of this randomized clinical trial is to test whether administration of live attenuated MMR vaccine (measles mumps rubella; Merck) to eligible adults at highest risk for contracting COVID-19 (healthcare workers, first responders), can induce non-specific trained innate immune leukocytes that can prevent/dampen pathological inflammation and sepsis associated with COVID-19-infection, if exposed.

Fifty six patients were randomly enrolled in the study. Participants were randomly stratified into two control groups and two test groups, from which conventional pick up and digital impressions were made respectively. Patients of group 1 (CIG Axial) and 3 (DIG Axial) received 4 axial implants whereas, group 2 patients (CIG Tilted), and group 4 (DIG Tilted) received two anterior axial implants and two distal tilted implants. All participants received hybrid dentures. Bone loss, implant loss, maintenance of prosthesis were evaluated at 6m,12m, and 24 months follow up period.
