Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

There is a pandemic in the world by COVID-19. Currently, the pharmacological curative or prophylactic treatments for this infection are not known. Recent studies have suggested that Hydroxy-Chloroquine could be effective in vitro and in vivo against COVID-19. The main objective of this study is to assess in patients with autoimmune disease treated with long course Hydroxy-Chloroquine initiated before the pandemic COVID-19 had an independent protective effect on the risk or the severity of infection with COVID-19.

This phase I trial investigates breathing techniques and meditation for health care workers during COVID-19 pandemic. Breathing techniques and medication may help manage stress and improve lung health. The goal of this trial is to learn if breathing techniques and meditation may help to reduce stress and improve lung health in health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how useful vitamin D supplementation is in reducing the severity of COVID-19 symptoms and the body's inflammatory and infection-fighting response to COVID-19. Individuals ≥50 years of age and older who are tested for COVID-19 and negative will be randomized (like flipping a coin) to either daily high dose vitamin D supplementation (6000 IU vitamin D3/day) vs. standard of care. Those individuals ≥50 years of age or older who test positive for COVID-19 at baseline will be randomized to bolus vitamin D (20,000 IU/day for 3 days) followed by high dose (6000 IU vitamin D/day) vs. standard of care for 12 months. All participants will receive a multivitamin containing vitamin D.

The clinical study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of inhaled nanoparticle nanoparticle formulation of Remdesivir (GS-5734) alone and in combination with NA-831 in 48 healthy volunteers.

This is a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, two-arm study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of BIO 300 Oral Suspension (BIO 300) as a therapy to improve lung function in patients that were hospitalized for severe COVID-19-related illness and continue to experience post-acute respiratory complications associated with Long-COVID after discharge. Patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive BIO 300 or placebo.

The first person-to-person Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) transmission in Italy was reported on Feb 21st, 2020, causing one of the most massive outbreak in Europe so far that stopped immediately all elective surgical procedures. Bariatric surgery represents the most effective treatment to obtain an important, long-term weight loss and comorbidities' resolution, including respiratory disorders. A sensitive decrease of epidemic has been observed lately and a gradual and progressive stop of the lockdown (phase 2-3) was planned, when the virus is supposed to be under control and protocols are guiding the restart of the elective bariatric surgery. Several questions are currently open: Laparoscopic bariatric surgery is safe in the phase 2-3? What's the expected complications rate? The actual hospital protocols are effective to minimize the risk of postoperative COVID-19 infection? Aim: to analyse results of bariatric surgery during phase 2-3 COVID-19 pandemic in Italy. Primary end point: 30 days COVID-19 infection, mortality and complications. Secondary end points: readmission rate 30 days, reoperations for any reason related to surgery. Study design: prospective multicenter observational. Setting: Italian National Health Service 8 high-volume bariatric centres. Enrollment criteria: No previous Covid-19 infection; Primary, standard IFSO approved bariatric procedures; No concomitant procedure; No previous major abdominal surgery; >18

The purpose of the study is to assess seroprevalence of COVID-19 infection in a cohort of HIV + patients and in a cohort of patients taking PrEP by emtricitabine / tenofovir.

The aim of this study will test the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of RLS-0071 for approximately 28 days in comparison to a placebo control in patients with acute lung injury due to COVID-19 pneumonia in early respiratory failure. Patients will be randomized and double-blinded for two parts, a single-ascending dose (SAD) part and a multiple-ascending dose (MAD) part. The name of the study drug involved in this study is: RLS-0071.

Recent studies have shown that some individuals may be asymptomatic but continue to shed the COVID-19 virus. These individuals may represent a population that can unknowingly transmit the virus. Healthcare workers (HCW) may acquire COVID-19 from the community or from possibly infected patients. It is important to gather data with respect to this to further understand the prevalence of asymptomatic carriage in individuals who work in research facilities, offices and clinical areas of hospitals and research facilities/institutes since this has important implications for infection control, as well as staff and patient safety. The purpose of this study is to test whether a proportion of these individuals may be asymptomatic shedders of the COVID-19 virus.
