Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This phase I trial evaluates the side effects and best dose of GEO-CM04S1 (previously designated as COH04S1), a synthetic modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA)-based SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, for the prevention of COVID-19 infection. COVID-19 infection is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. SARS-CoV-2 has demonstrated the capability to spread rapidly, leading to significant impacts on healthcare systems and causing societal disruption. GEO-CM04S1 was created by placing small pieces of SARS-CoV-2 DNA (the chemical form of genes) into synthetic MVA, which may be able to induce immunity (the ability to recognize and fight against an infection) to SARS-CoV-2. The purpose of the Phase 1 study is to determine the safety and the optimal dose of the GEO-CM04S1 vaccine. The Phase 2 study is designed as a multi-center, double-blind, randomized, parallel, study to evaluate the safety profile of 2 dose levels of GEO-CM04S1 as a single booster shot to assess the immune response measured by the fold-increase in antibody against SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein at day 28 post-injection among healthy adult volunteers.

To evaluate pulmonary changes and the results of a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation protocol (CPRP) in patients after SARS-VOC-2 infection. Clinical trial type study to be conducted between 2020 and 2024 involving clinical-functional cardiopulmonary imaging and blood transcriptome profile: before CPRP (T1), 2 months after CPRP (T2) and 1 year later (T3). Expected results: a) clinical, image and transcriptome changes; b) clinical-functional improvement after CPRP.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019) is a new infectious disease caused by a virus named as SARS-CoV2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2). Although it can have a devastating effect on many organs, the respiratory tract is particularly affected. In the course of the disease, a wide clinical spectrum is observed, from flu-like illness to lung failure. Some of the patients who survived the disease continue to have problems such as shortness of breath, fatigue, decrease in walking distance, decrease in participation in daily life activities. These problems suggest that the effects on respiratory and cardiac functions continue even after the disease ends. This study was designed to demonstrate the effects and extent of COVID-19 on cardiopulmonary capacity.

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of additional estradiol estrogen therapy on clinical response and mortality in non-severe COVID-19 patients

COVID19 patients survivors, after discharge from hospital show reduced lung function and reduced ability to exercise. Furthermore, mental health problems including stress, anxiety and depression and a low quality of life were observed. The prospective observational study involves COVID19 patients who have needed rehabilitation at the University Hospital of Ferrara. Patients receive comprehensive rehabilitation based on their specific needs in both acute and subacute rehabilitation. At the end of hospital rehabilitation, patients are offered a program to be carried out at home for both physical and psychological problems. A range of demographic and clinical data will be collected. Patients will also undergo a battery of functional, cognitive and psychological tests at 12, 26 and 52 weeks from the infection onset. Moreover, a specific assessement (both clinical and instrumental) on the pain symptom experienced, where present, will be done.

The principal objective of the CONFIDENT trial is to assess the efficacy of two units (400-500 mL in total) of convalescent plasma, as compared to Standard of Care (SoC), to reduce day-28 mortality in patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia who require mechanical ventilation.

A randomized, open-label, 2 arm, pilot trial of Lambda 180 mcg administered subcutaneously once weekly, for up to two weeks (2 injections at most), in addition to standard supportive care, compared to standard supportive care alone, in a population of COVID-19 infected patients. patients will be randomized according to 1:1 ratio to one of the 2 trial arms: Lambda 180 mcg S.C + standard care (intervention arm) or standard care only (control arm).

The AGILE platform master protocol allows incorporation of a range of identified and yet-to-be-identified candidates as potential treatments for adults with COVID-19 into the trial. Candidates will be added into the trial via candidate-specific trial (CST) protocols of this master protocol as appendices. Having one master protocol ensures different candidates are evaluated in the same consistent manor and opening up new trials for new candidates is more efficient. Inclusion of new candidates will be determined by the AGILE Scientific Advisory Board based on pre-clinical data, evidence in the clinical setting and GMP capabilities.

GEN-COVID multicenter study aims to identify the genetic variants of the host genome responsible for the clinical variability of patients with COVID-19. This variability to date is only partially related to the age and comorbidities of patients. The primary objective of the study is therefore to identify genetic variants associated with the severity of the disease, while the secondary objective consists in the identification of variants associated with longitudinal disease trajectories. This is a laboratory study that involves the conduct of genetic investigations, including whole exome sequencing and genome wide association studies, on human biological material from patients affected by COVID-19. Clinical information useful to describe the level of disease severity will be also collected for each enrolled patient. A total of at least 2,000 COVID-19 patients is expected to be included.

This is a multi-center, observational study that will enroll 1) patients with severe COVID-19 who have agreed to undergo therapy with Seraph® 100 under the existing EUA; 2) patients (medical record data) that have been previously treated with the Seraph® 100 after the date of the EUA approval (17 April 2020), but before the date that the study is approved at the study site, and 3) a convenience sample of patients (medical record data) in a historical control group who were admitted to the ICU at participating sites with severe COVID-19 infection, meeting the EUA treatment criteria, but not treated with Seraph® 100 up to the time the PURIFY-OBS protocol is approved at the site
