Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This is a prospective observational cohort study that will define the prevalence and incidence of CA-SARS-Cov2 infection using serological and PCR tests in a group of subjects during deconfinement. The team wishes to include approximately 1000 subjects in this study. The health crisis through containment has also created unprecedented environmental conditions with the very clear decrease in economic activities and a consequent decrease in exposure to the main air pollutants. The aim is therefore to carry out a case-control study in which each subject will be his or her own control in unexposed condition (to PM2.5, PM10, NO...) then exposed (after the recovery of economic activity and the usual levels of air pollutants) and to measure the impact of these pollutants on the immune system and epigenetic markers taking into account seasonality. The occurrence of infectious, cardiovascular, allergic and autoimmune events will then be measured according to the immunological profiles measured at inclusion.
Chinese University of Hong Kong
The objectives of this proposal are to: 1) determine the rate of SARS-CoV-2 seroconversion in unselected pregnant women in Hong Kong; 2) determine the rate of SARS-CoV-2 infection in women presenting with miscarriage and stillbirth; 3) follow the pregnancy course and perinatal outcome of confirmed COVID-19-infected pregnant cases; 4) determine the risk and characteristics of vertical transmission; and 5) evaluate the placental barrier, immune response and fetal damage in vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2. A series of longitudinal and cross-sectional observational studies, and a laboratory-based study will be conducted to fulfil the 5 objectives.

Nitazoxanide has been shown to have a clinical efficacy against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2; ivermectin has also demonstrated a remarkable experimental efficacy with a potential to be used for Coronavirus disease 2019.
Regeneris Medical
The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal cells for treating confirmed or suspected patients with SARS-CoV-2 and compromised respiratory function requiring hospitalization. The hypothesis of the Study is autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal cells given IV to eligible patients will improve clinical outcomes of COVID 19 positive patients with severe pneumonia or ARDS by reducing or avoiding cytokine storm.

This study is to establish an accurate, robust and easily scalable COVID-19 viral nucleic acid analysis platform from, but not limited to, saliva to help enable and support contact tracing in the canton of Baselland/ Switzerland. To achieve this, crude ribonucleotide acid (RNA) extraction from saliva is validated in combination with next-generation sequencing (NGS) diagnostics and loop mediated amplification (LAMP) assays as well as point of care test (POCT) for rapid detection of viral antigens on patients' samples.

Currently, there is no approved treatment for COVID-19 in France, either for the acute phase, nor for the late chronic phase. the investigator suggest that nintedanib has the potential to block the development of lung fibrosis when initiated early enough to inhibit the activation of mesenchymal cells and the progression of virus-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Computerized Tomography (CT) manifestations of fibrosis or fibrous stripes are described in COVID-19 (Ye, Eur Radiol 2020). Pan et al observed fibrous stripes in 17% patients in the early phase of the disease (Pan, Eur Radiol 2020). Ye et al observed bronchiectasis in 2 patients (15.4%) and evidence of pulmonary fibrosis in 3 patients (23.7%) at HRCT performed at 4 weeks (Ye, Eur Radiol 2020). Long term data are still lacking in patients with COVID-19 and the investigators do not know how many patients will have fibrotic sequelae from the acute illness.

The purpose of this study is to analyze in depth the relationship of myeloid cell subpopulations during infection by Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov2), the virus mediating Covid-19. Myeloid cells include neutrophils, monocytes and dendritic cells, each divided into subpopulations with different functions in immune defense and immune pathologies. The study is based on the following hypotheses: - Infection and the interferon response to infection may induce hyperactive or immunosuppressive differentiation of myeloid cells, that may be treated by specific inhibitors. - Some myeloid cell subpopulations currently identified in our laboratories might be markers for Covid-19 prognosis. - Alternative receptors may be present on myeloid cells, inducing the cytokine storm, a target for therapy. - The expression of Interferon (IFN) receptor and IFN responding genes on myeloid cells and on respiratory epithelial cells may correlate with prognosis and indicate potential treatment targets. - Interferon responses are known to be skewed during Covid-19, but some IFN subtype polymorphisms may correlate with prognosis and these subtypes migt be supplemented or inhibited for therapy.

National Institute on Aging (NIA)
Background: The higher death rate from COVID-19 in the older population is associated with low CD8 T cell counts in the blood. Researchers want to learn the status of CD8 T cells specific to SARS-CoV-2 and their changes with aging and in COVID-19. This may help to identify why COVID-19 is particularly lethal in the elderly and help to create an effective vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 in the elderly. Objective: To identify SARS-CoV-2 specific CD8 T cells in humans, and to determine their quantity and quality in people who have recovered from COVID-19. Eligibility: Maryland residents age 18 and older who have tested positive for and recovered from COVID-19. Design: Participants will be screened by phone. They must be able to provide a copy of their positive COVID-19 test result. Participants will visit the NIA/Clinical Research Unit. The visit will take about 1 hour. Laboratory tests showing a positive COVID-19 result will be verified. Participants vital signs will be checked. This will include blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration. Height and weight will be measured. Participants will have a medical history and medicine review. They will complete a COVID-19 questionnaire. Participants will have blood drawn. They will give a urine sample. Participants will give a saliva sample. They will rinse their mouth with water. After about 3 minutes, they will let saliva pool in the base of their mouth and then spit into a sterile container. Participants may be asked if they would be willing to return for optional visits at about 4 months and 1 year later. They will repeat the same laboratory sampling performed at the first visit. ...
