Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

Post Acute COVID-19 Quality of Life (PAC-19QoL) Tool Development and Patient Registry (PAC-19QoLReg)
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a newly emerged disease, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The COVID-19 pandemic is having a large impact on the mental and physical health of patients, yet data on the quality of life of post-COVID-19 patients is lacking. There are currently no post-COVID-19 specific measures for quality of life, particularly none which include the views of post-COVID-19 patients themselves. This observational study will recruit participants to contribute their preferences to the creation of a post-COVID-19 specific patient-reported measure on post-COVID-19 quality of life. Participants will be split into three groups: those who were not hospitalised; those who were hospitalised but not in intensive care units; and those who were hospitalised and in intensive care units. The creation of this measure will form phase 1 of the study, with 30-60 participants (10-20 in each group above) recruited to complete online surveys to find out their preferences of areas of life to include in such a measure. This will involve 3 online surveys, 1) to ask which areas of life they feel are impacted and how; 2) to find consensus about the areas to be included; 3) to weight the relevance of these areas in relation to each other. In phase 2 recruitment will open to additional participants and all participants will be asked to complete the finalised post-COVID-19 quality of life measure once a month for 12 months, aiming for a minimum of 100 participants at this stage. All participants will also be asked to complete a demographic questionnaire to inform the analysis of the data.

In December 2019, a highly infectious disease caused by a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) emerged in Wuhan, China. On March 11th 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Facing this critical situation, health care workers on the front line are at risk of developing psychological distress and other mental health symptoms. Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians works both in specialty outpateint/inpatient clinic and pandemic outpatient/inpatient clinics during the outbreak. Accordingly, PM&R physicians are expected to be mentally affected by COVID-19 pandemic. In this study we aimed to evaluate mental health status of PM&R physicians and related factors during COVID-19 pandemic. This study is a cross-sectional survey which is conducted on an online platform. Demographic data, working conditions of PM&R physicians and factors that may be related to mental health status is questioned in the survey. The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale - 21 (DASS-21) is used to measure the emotional states of depression, anxiety and stress. The Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) is used to assess the severity of both nighttime and daytime components of insomnia.

Nursing homes are ground zero for the COVID-19 pandemic. Nursing homes are ill-equipped for the pandemic; though facilities are required to have infection control staff, only 3% have taken a basic infection control course. Significant research has focused on infection control in the acute care setting. However, little is known about the implementation of practices and effective interventions in long-term care facilities. The investigators propose an intervention utilizing Project ECHO, an evidence-based telehealth model, to connect Penn State University experts with remote nursing home staff and administrators to proactively support evidence-based infection control guideline implementation. Our study seeks to answer the critical research question of how evidence-based infection control guidelines can be implemented effectively in nursing homes

Sex and gender matter to health equity, especially in a pandemic. Sex (a biological attribute) and gender (a social construct) may influence an individual's susceptibility, vulnerability and exposure to infectious disease. In previous coronavirus epidemics (SARS and MERS), male sex was associated with worse outcomes. Both immune and the hemostatic response display ample sexual dimorphism. The primary aim of the study is to determine whether sex differences in biomarkers of platelet and immune function, gut microbiome, clinical characteristics, therapy, clinical cost sensitive outcomes (i.e. in-hospital transition of care, case severity, and mortality due to COVID-19) exist in patients affected by COVID-19.

Our previous work on plants has indicated significant antimalarial and antiviral activities. Of these plants, two recipes are proposed for evaluation for COVID-19. It is Cinchona, an antimalarial and a combination of 4 plants with antiviral, antimalarial, antitussive and anti-inflammatory properties. The phase II clinical trial, with three arms and at a rate of 77 patients per arm, received the approval of the National Committee for Ethics and Health Research. This is a non-inferiority test aimed at comparing the therapeutic impact in "add on" to Azithromycin, phytomedicines versus Hydroxychloroquine in asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. After 10 days of treatment, viral clearance and symptom progression will be assessed on days 3, 6 and 14. Clinical, paraclinical and laboratory tests will be performed throughout the 3-month trial. Ethical and deontological considerations will be applied

This is a non inferiority test aimed to compare the efficacy and safety in add on to Azithromycin, an antimalarial drug, a treatment combination of the antimalrial drug with an antiviral phytomedicine versus Hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 patients without complications. A randomized clinical trial designed and intended to evaluate the efficacy of Dexamethasone and Methylprednisolone as a treatment for severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) caused by coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). Our aim is to find the best option for the treatment and management of ARDS in COVID-19 patients.

The investigators decided to conduct a longitudinal study that compares the pulmonary tomographic patterns found in patients with viral pneumonia (i.e. influenza H1N1 and SARS-CoV-2) at a regional hospital. The primary aim of this study is to compare the radiological patterns found in patients with COVID-19 and influenza H1N1. The secondary aims of this study will assess the association between the radiological CT pattern and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation and mortality within the first 28 days of intensive care unit admission.

With the appearance of the new SARS-COV2 virus, additional challenges are being imposed on the medical community after the resolution of acute COVID-19 illness, resulting in specific pathophysiologic mechanisms that while acutely damage the lung parenchyma might chronically impact the cardiopulmonary system. This study aims to investigate changes after mild COVID-19 illness in echocardiographic indices at rest and stress.
