Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

Targeting de Novo Pyrimidine Biosynthesis by Leflunomide for the Treatment of COVID-19 Virus Disease
The global COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented strain on health care services around the world. The absence of specific anti-viral medications to treat the underlying infection led to a proliferation of clinical studies and trials aimed at re-purposing existing medications. Human dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) is vital enzyme utilised by viruses to replicate in the host cell. Leflunomide, a drug that is already licenced to treat rheumatoid arthritis, is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme DHODH. Importantly, this drug has dual anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties so it targets viral replication and suppresses host inflammatory response which plays a role at more progressive stages of infection. DEFEAT-COVID is a multi-site, international, interventional, pragmatic, parallel group design, open label, randomised CTIMP with a pilot phase that will allow to adapt procedures and assessments if required. A phase III clinical trial of leflunomide for treating COVID-19 has been registered in China, Registration number: ChiCTR2000030058). The current proposal extends the original clinical study of leflunomide in China (People's Hospital of Wuhan University) to the UK through a structured collaboration.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of ketotifen and indomethacin taken together to improve symptoms related with COVID-19. Ketotifen and indomethacin are medications approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat diseases other than COVID-19. Their use in this study is investigational, meaning they have not been approved by the FDA to treat COVID-19.

This is a pilot study of a single-center, blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study testing for the efficacy and safety of Methylene blue when administered topically as a 0.02% solution for nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal irrigation in COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization.
Pfizer
The study is to estimate the effect of hepatic impairment on the plasma PK of PF-07321332/ritonavir. Findings from this study will be used to develop dosing recommendations so that the dose and/or dosing interval may be adjusted appropriately in the presence of hepatic impairment.

This is an open label, phase 2 clinical trial to assess the feasibility of a cannabidiol (CBD) dominant medicinal cannabis for the treatment of Long COVID. The primary aim is to assess the feasibility of recruiting and retaining individuals diagnosed with Long COVID into a treatment trial of medicinal cannabis, as well as assessing the safety and tolerability of a dominant medicinal cannabis in this population. The secondary aim is to determine the effect of a CBD dominant medicinal cannabis on symptoms associated with Long COVID.

This study aims to gain more insight in the immunological characteristics and immune response on a local level (the nose) and systemic level (the blood) of healthy people vaccinated with the current available COVID-19 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA; BNT162b2) and viral vector based (ChAdOx1) vaccines.

The syndrome characterized by the persistence of symptoms typical of COVID-19, beyond 4 weeks after discharge, is called long COVID. Long COVID affects a high percentage of patients who have suffered from COVID-19, regardless of its severity. The various symptoms present in that patients affect the functionality and physical, mental and psychological capacities of patients. Therefore, it is necessary to implement therapeutic programs, based on exercises and techniques of physiotherapy, to help affected people to resume their work, family, social and sports activities; prior to illness. Given the context in which these programs must be developed, telecare is positioned as the most recommended care method to carry out the rehabilitation of these patients. The general objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a cardiorespiratory tele-rehabilitation program in persistent COVID-19 patients. Study participants (n=60) will be randomly assigned to one of two intervention groups. Group 1 will combine breathing exercises with aerobic exercise: walk; and group 2 will perform functional exercises in addition to respiratory physiotherapy with. All participants will be evaluated at the beginning of the intervention, at the end of it.

The health care system was completely overwhelmed by the SARS-Cov-2 virus, and ICU admissions soared as a result of the ICU doctors' increased workload. A committed crew inserts invasive line procedures to guarantee a secure and efficient performance. When COVID-19 bound patients were followed up on in the second wave, frequent requests for arterial line placement were noted. These critically ill individuals had high rates of thrombosis, which was linked to thrombotic consequences. Many factors, such as patient morbidities, insertion technique, and operational health care trained personnel's qualifications, contribute to the lowering of arterial line patency. Our ICU management committee approved the use of systemic anticoagulation of ICU admitted patients starting on March 21, 2021 in response to an increase in the incidence of thrombosis and pulmonary embolic events in patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICU in the second wave of the epidemic.

This is a Ph2a study that consists of a double-blind, intra-patient placebo-controlled treatment period and an open-label uncontrolled treatment period with objective to evaluate the safety, tolerability, PK and preliminary efficacy of PRN473 in up to 40 patients with mild to moderate AD. On Day 1 (Baseline) of the Blinded Period, 2 target lesions with a difference no greater than 1 point in Total Sign Score (TSS) will be randomly assigned to treatment in an intra-patient 1:1 manner, one lesion to PRN473 and the other to matching placebo. Participation will take approximately 13 weeks, including up to a 5-week screening period, a 6-week treatment period, end of study assessments 1 day after last dose, and a safety follow-up phone call 2 weeks after last dose.
