Indication: Male or female participants, aged over 18 years old with suspicion or confirmed diagnosis of cancer (does not require histological confirmation) Objective: To investigate the efficacy of remote multimodal universal interventions delivered via virtual clinics to improve physical function as measured by the EORTC-QLQ-C30. Secondary Objective: To investigate the efficacy of remote multimodal universal interventions delivered via virtual clinics to improve emotional function, quality of life, participant activation (PAM), behaviour change and the effect it has on health economics (EQ-5D-5L). Exploratory Objective: Overall Survival and adherence to the intervention/advice using validated tools or development of a web-based toolkit.

The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of the administration of anti-SARS-CoV-2 convalescent plasma in COVID-19 patients who are sick enough to warrant hospitalization, but not yet admitted to the ICU (prior to the onset of overwhelming disease including a systemic inflammatory response, sepsis, and/or ARDS).

Finding effective strategies to treat or prevent the novel coronavirus disease that started in 2019 (COVID-19) is a global public health priority. Potential therapeutics and vaccines are now being investigated in over 1500 clinical trials. Clinical features of the disease include overproduction of reactive oxygen species which induces oxidative stress responses and contribute to acute lung injury. This presents a potential treatment strategy involving antioxidation therapy. In this pilot study, 90 COVID-19 patients aged 18-75 years will be recruited into two groups. The 45 patients in group 1 will receive the standard of care determined by their primary care providers while the 45 patients in group 2 will receive both the standard of care combined with daily antioxidant supplement for 14 days. All patients will be monitored for a total of 28 days with daily monitoring of symptoms and nasopharyngeal swab for SARS-CoV-2 test on days 3, 7, 14 and 28. The study will compare the following between the two groups: (1) the proportion of patients with clinical improvement (defined as live discharge from hospital, decrease of at least 2 points from baseline on a 7-point ordinal scale, or both), and (2) the proportion of patients with negative SARS-CoV-2 test by PCR on days 3, 7, and 14.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and associated emergency measures (EM) have dramatically impacted the lives of children/adolescents (children) and families. The closure of schools, social and recreational activities, and modifications to work environments has led to significant changes in the way children and families are working, living and socializing. Although the impact on the mental health of children and families has not been well researched, it is anticipated that already stressed children and families with pre-COVID-19 mental health challenges are at significant risk for deterioration in their mental health. As such, the implementation, and evaluation (specifically: feasibility, acceptability and barriers) of virtual-care interventions to alleviate child and family anxiety and enhance family functioning are critical. Virtual-care also optimizes health equity initiatives in reducing social, economic and environmental barriers to services that can improve or maintain mental health (WHO, 2017; MOHLTC, 2018). The current study will evaluate an adapted virtual-care cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) program for children with anxiety (VC-CBT). CBT has a strong evidence-base in treating children with anxiety disorders (Higa-McMillan, Francis, Rith-Najarian, and Chorpita, 2016; Seligman and Ollendick, 2011), with increasing evidence supporting the efficacy of virtual-care CBT for childhood anxiety disorders (Carpenter, Pincus, Furr, and Comer, 2018; Slone, Reese, and McClellan, 2012). This study aims to evaluate the feasibility, participation barriers related to social determinants of health (SDH) and acceptability of this virtual-care intervention in addressing mental health challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing EM in the immediate time-period. Early evaluation of this virtual-care intervention will enable future scale-up of this intervention during the post-pandemic recovery time-period and during subsequent COVID-19 waves, if necessary.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic many spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation services are limited to emergency management, leaving those living in the community without access to services. Unfortunately, this can lead to negative effects including increase in emotional distress, feelings of isolation, and decreased activity engagement. Due to their limited mobility and greater likelihood of respiratory illness it is imperative to provide alternative forms of activity engagement to reduce their risk for secondary complications. Physical activity has been demonstrate to have numerous benefits for individuals with SCI ranging from enhanced health through prevention of secondary complications to improved subjective well-being. The current study proposes to provide an online physical activity program through web-based videoconferencing to person with SCI to improve overall wellbeing and activity engagement. The program will consist of six weeks of twice-weekly, 45-minute sessions in which an experienced fitness instructor (i.e., wheelchair aerobics) with lived experience and a Kinesiology graduate student will lead online sessions. The sessions will be comprised of a 10-minute warm-up phase, a 25-minute aerobic phase and a 10-minute cool-down phase that will incorporate upper-extremity flexibility exercises and guided meditation. In all cases, remote (i.e., in-home) participant monitoring of physiological signals will be conducted by the instructor to ensure safety of participants. Once the program has been completed, participants will be asked to complete self-report questionnaires related to acceptability, feasibility, and limited effectiveness. Participants will also be asked to complete a brief semi-structured interview examining barriers and facilitators of the program. Participant feedback from the interviews will be used to further develop of the program to meet the needs of the population and develop sustainable approaches for access to care in the community setting through collaborations with community partners (SCI Ontario, National SCI Alliance, Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation). Ultimately, the proposed project aims to improve overall wellbeing and access to health care service for those with SCI during the COVID-19 quarantine.
