Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

There is a considerable variation in the disease behavior in terms of contracting the infection, manifesting none to a range of symptoms and severity of the infection among individuals exposed to or infected with SARS-CoV-2 virus, the causative organism of COVID-19. Although the respiratory system appears to be the primary target of this virus infection, emerging evidences suggests involvement of extra-pulmonary organs including central nervous system. We aim to compare the genetic profile of individuals with vs without COVID-19 after being exposed to infected cases. Additionally, we will assess the cognitive function in covid-19 positive cases with vs. without neurological symptoms at the time of infection and 1-month follow-up using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) questionnaire.

The COVID-19 pandemic might be an opportunity to review and refine our practices in anti TB treatment. For the follow-up of selected patients, telephone consultations may be efficient and cost-effective. The aim of the study is to assess the efficiency and the satisfaction with telephone consultation for the pharmacist and the TB patient. The study was conducted in tertiary care hospital TB control centres patients.

As a result of COVID-19 and measures taken by the Canadian Government to reduce the transmission of the virus, in-person psychology services have been suspended. Psychology services are now being conducted via video conferencing. The purpose of the current project is to pilot-test a 6-week Self Compassion Treatment for Chronic Pain delivered virtually, in order to understand its utility in the current environment. The treatment is to be delivered through a secure professional ZOOM licence. Objective 1 of the project is to assess the feasibility and acceptability of attending the treatment group through virtual participation. Objective 2 is to assess the effectiveness of the group treatment in improving self-compassion, mental health, relationship with pain, and quality of life.

There is a critical need to determine the impact of the COVID-19 emergency on the comprehensive well-being of people as they are living through the emergency and sequelae of the emergency period. The research team is requesting National Institutes of Health funding with the goal to investigate rural vs. urban living people's response to the crisis and its impact using mixed methods research.

The fight against the spread of the 2019-nCoV epidemic has achieved some success in China, but the epidemic is far from over. A key factor making the epidemic under control in China is the government's call for social distance, which has led to few people going out for donation. As a result, the number of blood donors on the streets has been continuing to decline. The first urgent recruitment of blood donors had been implemented during the period from 30 April to 10 May via emergency recruitment SMS . This repeat trial has been designed to further confirm the results from the the first recruitment by comparing which information extraction frameworks would be more sensitive to blood donors in emergency situations.

Medication Overuse Headache (MOH) is a disabling condition that affects the 2% of migraine population. Medication overuse (MO) makes this condition very difficult to treat. The literature of the last decades confirm the efficacy of withdrawal for patients with medication overuse, but it is also confirmed that patients have to be carefully followed after withdrawal to avoid relapses and to improve the clinical benefit of the therapeutic approach. Clinical results can be improved when traditional therapies are combined with behavioral approaches in particular mindfulness, that help patient to become more conscious about their symptoms and able to manage pain without medication. As the emergency situation due to the Corona-virus pandemic phenomenon in Italy, the regular clinical practice adopted for patients with CM-MO has changed in the last weeks: patients cannot come to the hospital for the withdrawal iv therapy and for regular follow up as the reduced mobility due to the emergency in particular in the Lombardia region, but all over Italy. So the investigators propose a pilot study to enforce the application of a Home-program for the withdrawal procedure for patients and the use of technology like smartphone and video calls so that patients can continue to be followed in their therapeutic process by using behavioral support and mindfulness practice. Patients will perform the withdrawal program at home, by oral administration of therapies, with specific instructions and education. Also the information for behavioral approach and mindfulness practice will be given, to use every day at home. Daily standardized mindfulness sessions of 12 minutes on their smartphone will be combined with weekly video-call to evaluate the clinical condition and to encourage the use strategies for pain management. Face-to-face visits at the follow up every three months will be scheduled. This modality will allow the patients to continue their therapeutic process and to be regularly followed during the one year after withdrawal.

Morbidity, mortality and progress depends on systemic inflammation especially in ARDS patients. Previous studies claims that the proportion of mean platellet volume to platellet which can simply be determined with simple blood tests that are performed at admission, might predict the mortality in ARDS patients. Covid-19 pneumonia has a very similar clinical outlook with ARDS. Therefore we decided to research whether that proportion is legitimate for detecting the progress of Covid-19 pneumonia or not.

The COVIDHELP study will prospectively evaluate the yet unknown clinical course of the COVID-19 infection in cancer patients and document the impact of potential infrastructural limitations on cancer care of COVID-19 positive patients. All patients consenting will provide peripheral blood samples for prospective biobanking with the aim of investigating immune response and immunity against COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic affects eating habits, diet quality and physical activity differently among individuals; it is unclear how these behaviours will evolve as the pandemic continues. In this observational study, dietary intake will be frequently collected using an artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced mobile application combined with real-time analysis, and lifestyle behaviours from online questionnaires, to provide timely, relevant data for public health decision making.

There is an evidence gap in relation to the incidence, impact and severity of COVID-19 in newborn babies. International data are very limited, we have no robust estimates of incidence and no UK-based data with which to inform policy, clinical care, service delivery or advice to pregnant women. The research aims are to investigate the three mains ways in which COVID-19 might affect newborns and babies that need neonatal care: 1. Newborn babies might catch COVID-19 before, during or soon after birth and this may lead to problems with breathing or feeding that need support in hospital. 2. COVID-19 could affect babies that are already on neonatal units with other medical conditions (like being very premature) that place them at greater risk of severe COVID-19. 3. COVID-19 might affect that way that pregnant women are looked after in pregnancy, labour or bith which could lead to problems for some babies, even if they do not themselves become infected with COVID-19.
