Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic in Norway, it is paramount to develop and utilize clinical tools for assessing and risk stratifying patients with suspected coronary infection in the emergency departments. Diagnostic use of ultrasound in viral pneumonias, including COVID-19 has proved to be very useful. The use of ultrasound will assist in quick detection of lung pathology compatible with increasing severity of the COVID-19 disease. At the same time, the use of ultrasound diagnostics in the emergency department could improve logistics and reduce potential exposure of the corona virus to other health personnel. The purpose of the study is to assess whether ultrasound findings correlates with physical examination, labs, and other imaging diagnostics in patients with suspected or diagnosed COVID-19 disease, as well as assessing whether ultrasound diagnostics can assist in risk stratification. The project is conducted as a prospective multicenter study where ultrasound diagnostics will be performed on patients with suspected coronary infection in the emergency departments. Data collection takes place as part of the daily clinical evaluation of acute patients in the emergency departments. The project is planned to be completed towards the end of 2025.

Clinical trial in health care personnel (physicians, nurses or nurse assistants) to determine the effect of orally-administered bovine lactoferrin to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection. Participants will be randomized to receive daily bovine lactoferrin plus standard measures during 12 weeks or placebo (maltodextrine) for the prevention of SARS-CoV-2. The target enrollment is 336 participants. Each study participant will be monitored twice a week for symptoms of COVID-19 and if symptoms occur, a RT-PCR will be performed. Additionally, we will evaluate asymptomatic infections, by measuring SARS-CoV-2 serology every 4 weeks.

This research study is designed to investigate the effects of a brief psychological intervention for improving depressed mood in older individuals (65 years and older) in isolation during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The treatment is delivered by telephone and consists of four weekly individual sessions. Two therapeutic methods are used in combination during this intervention: Behavioral activation (BA) and Mental Imagery (MI). BA involves identifying and scheduling enjoyable and meaningful activities to improve mood and reduce social isolation. To enhance BA efficacy and adherence, MI is paired with BA as MI is known to activate emotion and motivation. The MI intervention in this study involves having participants imagine, in vivid sensory detail, engaging in some of the activities that are scheduled during BA. Approximately 154 individuals will participate in the study. Half of the participants will be randomised to start the intervention immediately, while the other half of the participants will be randomized to a control group receiving the intervention after 4 weeks. This procedure makes it possible to evaluate the effects of the treatment while not disadvantaging participants randomized to the control group. Participants will be asked to fill in questionnaires before, during (at the end of each intervention week), and after treatment (or waiting period for the control group). Questionnaires will also be sent 1-, 3- and 6 months after treatment to follow up on the results. A smaller group of participants (10-15) will be asked to participate in a more detailed interview about how they experienced the treatment.

In December 2019, a pneumonia due to a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) emerged in the city of Wuhan, in China. In a few weeks, the number of confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection has dramatically increased, with almost 150'000 cases and more than 6'000 reported deaths on March, 16th 2020. Little is known on the rate of human-to-human transmission of this new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in the community and within the hospital. Depending on the country, contact subjects considered to be at high or moderate risk of SARS-CoV-2 are, either isolated at home for a period of time defined by the health authorities or, on the contrary, continue their professional activity on the condition that they adopt measures to prevent transmission to those around them. In most European countries, healthcare workers adopt this second option. In all cases, it is most often recommended that contact persons monitor their state of health and communicate it to the persons dedicated to this action. Whether such subjects become spreaders of the virus is not known, nor is the proportion of viral spreader who will develop a symptomatic infection. In this study, we aim to evaluate the virological and clinical outcomes of subjects following a contact at high/moderate risk of SARS-CoV-2 acquisition, in community-subjects and/or healthcare workers. The study population is represented by all subjects who had a contact with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases and whose contact was considered to be at high/moderate risk of SARS-CoV-2 acquisition. This include both children and adult subjects, subject without social security, and healthcare workers.

The host response against the coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) appears to be mediated by a 'cytoquine storm' developing a systemic inflammatory mechanism and an acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), in the form of a bilateral pneumonitis, requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in an important group of patients. In terms of preventing progression to the critical phase with the consequent need of admission to the intensive care units (ICU), it has been recently proposed that this inflammatory cytoquine-mediated process can be safely treated by a single course of ultra-low radiotherapy (RT) dose < 1 Gy. The main purpose of the study was to analyze the efficacy of ultra low-dose pulmonary RT, as an anti-inflammatory intention in patients with SARS-Cov-2 pneumonia with a poor or no response to standard medical treatment and without IMV.
