Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

Radiotherapy in low doses (30 to 100 cGy) was a popular treatment of viral pneumonias until 1940s. Low dose radiation therapy (LDRT) could possibly reduce the inflammation and prevent the cytokine storm thus mitigating the severity of pneumonitis. This is a single arm study designed to assess the feasibility and clinical efficacy of low dose radiation therapy (70 cGy in single fraction) in the patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. A total of 10 eligible patients (as per inclusion criteria) will be recruited and response will be assessed based on the symptomatic improvement or deterioration by using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS). The NEWS score will be recorded on baseline and then on Day 3, Day 7 and Day 14.
ProofPilot
Radish Health and ProofPilot in coordination with Sanesco are running this study to help establish whether the Premier Biotech COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test Cassette (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma Authorized for distribution under emergency use authorization - though not yet FDA reviewed) can be conducted effectively at home to detect COVID-19 antibodies among individuals who have tested positive, or suspect they have previous contracted from COVID-19 and recovered. The study also aims to examine how the results of those tests change social-distancing behaviors and general anxiety over 8 weeks post-test.

The aim of the present study is to examine whether cerebral oxygenation could be a more useful parameter than peripheral oxygen saturation to guide clinical titration of permissive hypoxemia in COVID-19 ARDS patients

This is a randomized trial of home-based exercises versus control for older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hypothesis is that participation in a home-based program will reduce the risk of adverse effects of physical distancing by decreasing patient-reported disability, improving mental health and avoiding hospitalization or institutionalization for vulnerable older people

Chronic Migraine is a disabling condition that affects the 2% of migraine population. It is often associated with medication overuse that makes this condition very difficult to treat. The literature of the last decades confirm the efficacy of withdrawal for patients with medication overuse but it is also confirmed that patients have to be carefully followed in the last period after withdrawal to avoid relapses and to improve the clinical benefit of the therapeutic approach. It has been also reported how the clinical results can be improved when traditional therapies are combined with behavioral approaches in particular mindfulness, that help patient to become more conscious about their symptoms and able to manage pain without medication. Generally patients after withdrawal follow a specific prophylaxis for migraine, but also come weekly to the hospital for practicing mindfulness for 6 sessionsAs the emergency situation due to the Corona-virus pandemic phenomenon in Italy, patients will miss the possibility to come for the regular practice to the hospital: for this reason the investigator propose a small pilot study to enforce the use of technology for our patients so that they can continue to be followed in their therapeutic process. This preliminary study will be conducted on 25 patients that have been submitted to a withdrawal according to the standard procedure at our hospital and they will practice mindfulness daily by a standard session of 12 minutes on their smartphone recorded by the expert who generally manage their sessions at the hospital and also a weekly video-call to evaluate the clinical condition and to encourage to use strategies for pain management. This modality will allow the patients to continue their therapeutic process and to be followed regularly during the one year after withdrawal

Moderate to severe cases of SARS-associated ARDS based on inclusion/ exclusion criteria and the decision made in multi- disciplinary team are treated with 0.5 Gy whole lung radiation.
Dr Sze-Yuan Ooi
This is a multi-site, prospective, non-randomised trial assessing the implementation of a smartphone application-based model of care for patients with COVID-19 infection managed in community isolation. We will recruit 2000 COVID +ve patients aged 18 years and over who are managed at home. The objective will be to describe the rates of avoidable presentations to ED and 30 day all case mortality per diagnosed COVID-19 case and to compare these to a propensity matched and synthetic control group.

Novel Coronavirus 2019 Disease (COVID-19) mortality is highly associated with viral pneumonia and its complications. Accurate and prompt diagnosis shown to be effective to improve outcome by providing early treatment strategies. While chest X-ray (CXR) and computerized tomography (CT) are defined as gold standard, given the advantage of being an ionized radiation free, practical technique point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is also reported as a diagnostic tool for COVID-19. There are limited studies regarding the importance of POCUS in diagnosis and review of COVID-19. Therefore the aim of this study is to evaluate the utility of bedside lung ultrasound on diagnosis of COVID-19 for patients admitted to emergency department .

The pandemic of a newly upcoming viral disease which is associated with COVID-19 puts the whole world's health system under pressure. Patients suffering from this disease mainly develop respiratory symptoms, which can lead to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) necessitating ICU, admission in 10-20% of the cases admitted to hospital. In addition to these symptoms, patients show lymphopenia, cardiac symptoms and altered coagulation profiles. Although those patients are treated in the ICU the mortality is up to 20% due to multiorgan failure. The aim of this study is to show non-inferiority of flow-controlled ventilation compared to standard (lung protective ventilation). Methods: After admission to the ICU, the patients will receive information about the study and informed consent will be taken. Upon reaching the criteria for moderate to severe ARDS (P/F ratio below 200 mmHg and PEEP above 5 cmH2O) the patients will be randomized. In the treatment group (group A) the ultra-thin ventilation tube will be placed through the existing tube. Then flow-controlled ventilation will be applied for 48 hours. In the other group (group B) ventilation will be performed according to the lung protective strategy. All other treatment will be unchanged. Data-collection will be started 1 hour after initiation of the study. Primary end point is PaO2.

This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of Hydrogen-Oxygen Generator with Nebulizer (model AMS-H-03) developed by Shanghai Asclepius Meditech Co., Ltd. as an adjuvant therapy for the patients with COVID-19 infected pneumonia in improving the clinical symptoms and reducing the incidence of severe pneumonia, as compared with the reference device of EverFlo Oxygen Concentrator (registration certificate No.: NMPA Registration Standard: 20162542389) manufactured by Respironics, Inc. US.
