Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This is a phase I, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study, to evaluate safety and immunogenicity of a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CHO cell) in Chinese healthy population aged 18 years and older. After randomization, the trial for each subject will last for approximately 13 months. Screening period is 1 week prior to randomization (Day -7 to Day -1), and each dose of either SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CHO Cell) or placebo will be given intramuscularly (IM) on Day 0 and Day 14 for a two-dose regimen, or on Day 0, Day 14, and Day 28 for a three-dose regimen. Subjects who are ≥18 years old and ≤ 59 years old will be enrolled in adult group, and healthy elderly population who are >59 years old will be enrolled in elderly group. After adult group completes the follow-up 7 days after first vaccination, elderly group will be recruited.
National Natural Science Foundation of China
The study is designed to assess whether allergic rhinitis and allergen immunotherapy affect the humoral response to SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination in adults. This is a prospective study enrolling a total of approximately 120 subjects, 18-55 years old.
Sorrento Therapeutics, Inc.
This is a Phase 2a randomized, placebo-controlled study designed to investigate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of COVI-MSC in treating post COVID-19 "long haul" pulmonary compromise.

The United States (U.S.) is the country with the largest number of infections and deaths due to COVID- 19 and racial/ethnic minorities are disproportionately affected. Acceptance and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines will be instrumental to ending the pandemic. To this end, 2VIDA! (SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine Intervention Delivery for Adults in Southern California) is a multilevel intervention to address individual, social, and contextual factors related to access to, and acceptance of, the COVID-19 vaccine by implementing and assessing a COVID-19 vaccination protocol among Latino and African American (AA) adults (>18 years old) in San Diego. 2VIDA! builds on our previous CBPR efforts and centers on conducting COVID-19 Individual awareness and education, linkages to medical and supportive services, and Community Outreach and Health Promotion in the intervention sites (Phase 1); and offering the COVID-19 vaccine to Latino and AA adults (>18 years old) in federally-qualified health centers and pop-up vaccination stations in communities highly impacted by the pandemic and identifying individual and structural barriers to COVID-19 immunization (Phase 2).
University of Ottawa
In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a global pandemic. Ontario has confirmed more than 547,000 cases of COVID-19 since testing began. For many of these patients, symptoms resolve within 4 weeks of onset. However, it is becoming apparent that a significant number of individuals are experiencing symptoms that persist long after the acute infection, known as Long COVID. These individuals have a wide constellation of presenting symptoms, often varying from initial presentation. For this study, we will be enrolling individuals receiving care at The Ottawa Hospital for Long COVID. This study aims to determine the following four things: 1) will adding electronic case management improve quality of life three months after coming to hospital with Long COVID; 2) is the electronic case management platform cost effective; 3) is there any factors that predict outcomes at 3 months; 4) to determine how a personalized rehabilitation program supported by a digital platform could be implemented for individuals with Long COVID. We will enroll individuals from The Ottawa Hospital who will then be randomly assigned to receive either usual care or usual care plus electronic case management, through a platform called NexJ Connected Wellness. Participants will also complete questionnaires every 4 weeks for 3 months. We will be looking at quality of life, mental and physical health, cognitive symptoms, fatigue and pain.
Celltex Therapeutics Corporation
This is an interventional new drug clinical trial for a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, and placebo control study using intravenous injection of allogeneic adipose stem cells (Celltex AdMSCs) for subjects with severe COVID-19.
West China Hospital
This is a phase Ⅰ/Ⅱ, single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, to evaluate the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of the recombinant COVID-19 vaccine (Sf9 cells) in the subjects from healthy aged 6-17 years with immunization procedures 0, 21, 42 days and doses (10μg/20μg/40μg).
International Vaccine Institute
To expand the access and delivery of COVID-19 Vaccines in Africa (ECOVA), the investigators will conduct a phase 3, individually randomized, observer-blind, controlled (influenza vaccine) trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the BBIBP-CorV vaccine against any severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV- 2) infection among adults 18 years and older. The BBIBP-CorV vaccine is an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (Vero cell) manufactured by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products (BIBP), China National Biotec Group (CNBG), Sinopharm, Beijing, People's Republic of China and received emergency use authorization (EUA) from World Health Organization (WHO).

In December 2019, viral pneumonia (Covid-19) caused by a novel beta-coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) broke out in Wuhan, China. Some patients rapidly progressed and suffered severe acute respiratory failure and died, making it imperative to develop a safe and effective vaccine to treat and prevent severe Covid-19 pneumonia. Based on detailed analysis of the viral genome and search for potential immunogenic targets, a synthetic minigene has been engineered based on conserved domains of the viral structural proteins and a polyprotein protease. The infection of Covid-19 is mediated through binding of the Spike protein to the ACEII receptor, and the viral replication depends on molecular mechanisms of all of these viral proteins. This trial proposes to develop universal vaccine and test innovative Covid-19 minigenes engineered based on multiple viral genes, using an efficient lentiviral vector system (NHP/TYF) to express viral proteins and immune modulatory genes to modify artificial antigen presenting cells (aAPC) and to activate T cells. In this study, the safety and immune reactivity of this aAPC vaccine will be investigated.
