Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This study uses the AirGo band to monitor changes in tidal ventilation in spontaneously breathing patients with COVID-19 associated respiratory failure. It aims to recognize patterns of ventilation associated with worsening respiratory failure in this patient population. If successful, this study will lead to the development of new robust methods for real-time, continuous monitoring of respiratory function in patients with respiratory failure. In turn, such monitoring methods may enable improvements in the medical management of respiratory failure and timing of interventions.

Captopril being an effective drug available in liquid preparation, administration by nebulization could be of interest for maximizing lung action and minimizing systemic side effects. Such a treatment might be used for "Covid-19" patients with pneumonia in order to avoid ARDS.

Patients with COVID-19 which are 60 years old or above or with comorbidities are at risk of deteriorating and developing severe illness. This prospective open label study will include people 60 years old or above or younger if at risk for severe disease. Individuals confirmed to have SARS-CoV-2 infection will be identified using medical records screening. They will then be offered to participate in the study and if agree will be given the informed consent. After examining inclusion and exclusion criteria they will be asked to sign the informed consent and after signing Information like immunizations, ECG results, diagnostic images and reports, written medical reports, diagnostic lab testing results (e.g. blood tests, urine tests, blood bank info), allergies and intolerances (drug and food allergies, food intolerances), prescription history, and general patient information (e.g. name, birthdate, personal health number, address, phone number) will be gathered. Those who are not eligible for the study will be informed of the reason(s) for ineligibility (generally it will be a safety exclusion and they should be aware of this). Those who are eligible will be randomized to one of three arms: hydroxychloroquine + azithromycin, hydroxychloroquine + camostat mesylate or "doing nothing" in a ratio of 2:1:2. Study drug will be dispensed by the hospital pharmacy. Follow up will continue for 8 weeks.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged in December 2019, and in mere few months has resulted in a pandemic of viral pneumonia. Substantial proportion of patients with COVID-19 have biochemical evidence of myocardial injuries during the acute phase. Possible mechanisms including acute coronary events, cytokine storm, and COVID-19 related myocarditis, have been postulated for the cardiac involvement in COVID-19. It is uncertain whether COVID-19 survivors are at risk cardiac dysfunction including cardiac arrhythmia and heart failure. The prospective screening study aims to evaluate the possible latent effects from COVID-19 in COVID-19 survivors. COVID-19 survivors 4-6 weeks after hospital discharge will be recruited from the Infectious Disease clinic, Queen Mary Hospital with standard 12-lead electrocardiogram, serum troponin, NT-proBNP, and standard transthoracic echocardiogram. The outcome measures include (1) new onset cardiac arrhythmia, (2) N Terminal (NT)-proBNP elevation above the diagnostic range of heart failure, and (3) newly detected left ventricular dysfunction.

The objective of this protocol is to estimate the proportion of patients hospitalized in intensive care unit for a SARS-Cov-2 viral lung infection and contaminating their environment at 1 meter. The contamination will be assessed by quantifying the viral RNA by RT-PCR on a 600-liter air sample aspirated by a Coriolis® system. This sample will be taken within 48 hours after the confirmation of SARS-Cov-2 infection, documented by RT-PCR. In fact, the hospital hygiene measures practiced in intensive care unit in patients with viral respiratory infection are identical to those practiced in other services. These measures are possibly insufficient as evidenced by recent data related to the COVID-19 epidemic.

The investigatores propose to evaluate intravenous administration of convalescent plasma (CP) obtained from COVID19 survivors in patients requiring hospitalization for symptomatic "high risk" COVID19 disease as reflected by the presence of elevated hsTPN. Supportive data exist for use of convalescent plasma in the treatment of COVID19 and other overwhelming viral illness. Investigators hypothesize that treatment with COVID19 CP will demonstrate salutary effects on COVID19 disease severity/duration, with the primary objective to reduce mortality and a key secondary objective to reduce the requirement for and/or duration of mechanical ventilation. Finally, as the hospital mortality for patients requiring mechanical ventilation is very high (50 to 80%), these patients will be eligible for COVID19 CP treatment as well, even in the absence of elevated hsTPN. Although considerable overlap of these populations has been observed (elevated hsTPN and requirement for mechanical ventilation) there is not 100% redundancy and it is hopeful that COVID19 CP may provide benefit to these critically ill patients.

This is a Phase II pilot exploratory study designed to investigate if prophylactic treatment with short term steroids administered to high risk Covid-19 patient might prevent cytokine storm and progression to respiratory failure. High risk is defined based on serologic markers of inflammation that include abnormalities of Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Ferritin , D-dimer, Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), as well as lymphopenia and impaired O2 saturation prior to or on the 7th day of first symptom of Covid-19.

The purpose of this study is to collect French medical data for patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or NeuroMyelitis Optica (NMO) spectrum disorder who are diagnosed or strongly suspected of being infected with Covid19. The objective of this study is to provide scientific information regarding the possible risk factors in these patients, as a large part of them receive immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive treatments. The main objective of this study is thus to determine the epidemiological (eg, age, form of disease, disability) and pharmacological (related to immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive treatments) factors favoring the occurrence of a severe form of Covid-19 in MS and NMO patients.

Novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a newly discovered contagious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus, primarily manifesting as an acute respiratory illness with pneumonia, but can affect multiple organs such as kidney, heart, digestive tract, blood and nervous system. In previous reports of SARS and MERS-CoV infections, acute kidney injury was described in 5 to 15% of patients and was associated with a high mortality rate (60-90%). Recent reports showed renal abnormalities in COVID-9 infected patients. A recent Chinese study also reported that acute kidney injury was an independent risk factor for mortality. However, the exact mechanism of kidney involvement remains unclear: sepsis-related cytokine storm or direct cellular injury from the virus. Also, kidney involvement has not yet been well characterized: heavy albuminuria, hematuria or interstitial nephropathy alone. A recent study identified viral RNA in kidney tissue and another study succeeded isolating SARS-CoV-2 from the urine sample of an infected patient. These data suggest that the kidney might be a target of this novel coronarivus. The sponsor suggests characterizing kidney involvement in SARS-CoV-2 infection. Study objectives are: - To give an accurate characterization of kidney involvement in COVID-19 - To investigate the physiopathologic mechanism of kidney involvement in SARS-CoV-2 infection - To identify risk factors for kidney involvement in in SARS-CoV-2 infection - To evaluate the impact of kidney involvement in in SARS-CoV-2 infection - To assess the long-term health effect of kidney injury on survivors of in SARS-CoV-2 infection
