Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of hydroxychloroquine - camostat combination therapy in hospitalized patients with moderate COVID-19 infection, CLOCC-Trial Primary Objectives: The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate, that a combination therapy of hydroxychloroquine and camostat (Foipan®) is superior to hydroxychloroquine + placebo in participants with moderate COVID-19.

JUPITER is an observational study protocol that aims to understand factors that can help prevent/mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and understand factors that help reduce disease progression in patients with COVID-19. We aim to accomplish this by obtaining self-reported historical and longitudinal data from study participants.

COVID-19 is a rapidly spreading and very contagious disease caused by a novel coronavirus that can lead to respiratory insufficiency. In many patients, the chest radiograph at first presentation be normal, and early low-dose CT-scan is advocated to diagnose viral pneumonia. Lung ultrasound (LUS) has similar diagnostic properties as CT for diagnosing pneumonia. However, it has the advantage that it can be performed at point-of-care, minimizing the need to transfer the patient, reducing the number of health care personnel and equipment that come in contact with the patient and thus potentially decrease the risk of spreading the infection. This study has the objective to examine the accuracy of lung ultrasound in patients with proven COVID-19 pneumonia.
ImmunityBio, Inc.
This is a phase 1b, open-label study in adult healthy subjects. This clinical trial is designed to assess the safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity the combination of hAd5-S-Fusion+N-ETSD (Suspension for injection) and hAd5-S-Fusion+N-ETSD (Oral capsule) and to select an optimal combination dose for future studies.

Protocol Summary Study design: Prospective cohort study of pregnant COVID-19 positive patients at delivery. Study Objective: To collect umbilical cord blood and placenta samples at the time of delivery in COVID-19 positive women and evaluate for presence of COVID-19 virus and maternal antibody response. Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria: Women admitted for delivery who are known or suspected COVID-19 positive who have had standard nasal swab testing for COVID-19. Study Procedures: Informed consent for patients will be obtained. Maternal blood will be collected for viral and antibody tests for COVID-19. Following delivery of the neonate, cord blood and placenta samples will be collected and sent for viral PCR and maternal antibody analysis. Neonatal testing will be done as per existing clinical protocol for infants born to PUI/COVID-19 positive women. Statistical Analysis: Statistical analysis for this study will include descriptive analysis and quantitative statistics of findings.

As part of the Coronavirus Infectious Disease 2019 (COVID19) pandemic, the hospital care system is facing a major strain. Patients with SARS-Cov2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 ) infection can worsen very quickly, possibly presenting, within hours, severe respiratory failure requiring urgent specialized care. Therefore, it is essential to develop emergency assessment tools to assess relevant criteria to decide which patients must be kept under hospital monitoring and which patients can be treated on outpatient care. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of STST in the decision to hospitalize patients consulting emergency department for a SARS-Cov2 infection. The investigators wish to show that the addition of this test to the usual hospitalization criteria reduces the proportion of patients hospitalized 48 hours after their first visit to the emergency department.

This is a pilot, randomized, single-center, parallel group, open-label controlled study to evaluate the feasibility, safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics of nebulized HCQ01 plus Standard of Care (SOC) versus SOC alone in hospitalized cancer patients with COVID-19. King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is the study sponsor, and the study will be conducted at KHCC COVID-19 wards. Approximately 28 cancer patients, ≥18 years of age with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, will be enrolled and randomized 1:1 to the treatment and control arms where they will receive ten doses of Hydroxychloroquine solution via nebulizer in addition to SOC or the control arm where treatment will follow KHCC SOC.

A series of microbiota were correlated inversely with the disease severity and virus load. Gut microbiota could play a role in modulating host immune response and potentially influence disease severity and outcomes.

Current management of COVID-19 (coronavirus) is mainly supportive, and respiratory failure from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is the leading cause of mortality. Cytokines and chemokines are thought to play an important role in immunity and immunopathology during virus infections. Patients with severe COVID-19 have higher serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6) and chemokines (IL-8) compared to individuals with mild disease or healthy controls, similar to patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Cannabidiol (CBD), a nonpsychotropic ingredient of Cannabis sativa, possesses potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. These effects are mediated by T cell attrition and by inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine release (tumor necrosis factor-a, Interferon gamma, IL-1b, IL-6, and IL-17) and stimulation of anti-inflammatory cytokine production (IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, and IL-13). In a number of phase 2 trials involving more than 100 patients, our group was able to show the safety and efficacy of CBD in the prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease. Based on these data, we will test the cytokine profile, safety and efficacy of CBD treatment in patients with severe and critical COVID-19 infection.
