Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how useful vitamin D supplementation is in reducing the severity of COVID-19 symptoms and the body's inflammatory and infection-fighting response to COVID-19. Individuals ≥50 years of age and older who are tested for COVID-19 and negative will be randomized (like flipping a coin) to either daily high dose vitamin D supplementation (6000 IU vitamin D3/day) vs. standard of care. Those individuals ≥50 years of age or older who test positive for COVID-19 at baseline will be randomized to bolus vitamin D (20,000 IU/day for 3 days) followed by high dose (6000 IU vitamin D/day) vs. standard of care for 12 months. All participants will receive a multivitamin containing vitamin D.

The clinical study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of inhaled nanoparticle nanoparticle formulation of Remdesivir (GS-5734) alone and in combination with NA-831 in 48 healthy volunteers.

This is a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, two-arm study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of BIO 300 Oral Suspension (BIO 300) as a therapy to improve lung function in patients that were hospitalized for severe COVID-19-related illness and continue to experience post-acute respiratory complications associated with Long-COVID after discharge. Patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive BIO 300 or placebo.

The first person-to-person Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) transmission in Italy was reported on Feb 21st, 2020, causing one of the most massive outbreak in Europe so far that stopped immediately all elective surgical procedures. Bariatric surgery represents the most effective treatment to obtain an important, long-term weight loss and comorbidities' resolution, including respiratory disorders. A sensitive decrease of epidemic has been observed lately and a gradual and progressive stop of the lockdown (phase 2-3) was planned, when the virus is supposed to be under control and protocols are guiding the restart of the elective bariatric surgery. Several questions are currently open: Laparoscopic bariatric surgery is safe in the phase 2-3? What's the expected complications rate? The actual hospital protocols are effective to minimize the risk of postoperative COVID-19 infection? Aim: to analyse results of bariatric surgery during phase 2-3 COVID-19 pandemic in Italy. Primary end point: 30 days COVID-19 infection, mortality and complications. Secondary end points: readmission rate 30 days, reoperations for any reason related to surgery. Study design: prospective multicenter observational. Setting: Italian National Health Service 8 high-volume bariatric centres. Enrollment criteria: No previous Covid-19 infection; Primary, standard IFSO approved bariatric procedures; No concomitant procedure; No previous major abdominal surgery; >18

The aim of this study will test the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of RLS-0071 for approximately 28 days in comparison to a placebo control in patients with acute lung injury due to COVID-19 pneumonia in early respiratory failure. Patients will be randomized and double-blinded for two parts, a single-ascending dose (SAD) part and a multiple-ascending dose (MAD) part. The name of the study drug involved in this study is: RLS-0071.

This open label, randomized, controlled, investigator-initiated, multi-centre trial aims to establish metabolic improvements in COVID-19 subjects by dietary supplementation with cofactors N-acetylcysteine, L-carnitine tartrate, nicotinamide riboside and serine plus standard therapy. The primary objective is to assess the clinical efficacy of the combination of metabolic cofactors supplementation and hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 patients.

Ultomiris (Ravulizumab), is a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets terminal complement products and is proposed for the treatment of COVID-19 induced microvasculature injury and endothelial damage leading to thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) causing acute kidney injury (AKI). Ravulizumab is to be used for participants with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 who clinically or diagnostically present with deteriorating renal function. Ravulizumab causes immediate and sustained inhibition of the terminal complement cascade. The use of ravulizumab could ameliorate COVID-19 induced kidney injury due to TMA, shorten hospital stay, and improve the overall survival.

Background: Anosmia is a debilitating common symptom of COVID-19. The therapeutic effect of systemic steroid for the treatment of anosmia has been studied with various findings of its efficacy. However, the effect of local steroid was not assessed before. Objective: To estimate the efficacy of local steroid in the treatment of anosmia in COVID-19 patients.
