Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This study collects blood samples, medical information, and medical images from patients who are being treated for cancer and have a positive test for SARS CoV-2, the new coronavirus that causes the disease called COVID-19. Collecting blood samples, medical information, and medical images may help researchers determine how COVID-19 affects the outcomes of patients undergoing cancer treatment and how having cancer affects COVID-19.

Cardiovascular involvement in coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) encompasses a wide range of vascular and myocardial pathologies, including both acute and long-term sequelae. The MIIC-MI study aims to investigate mechanisms of cardiac injury in COVID-19 using multi-modality imaging and immunophenotyping to better understand the link with adverse patient outcomes.

The study hypothesis is that low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) coupled with artificial intelligence by deep learning would generate imaging biomarkers linked to the patient's short- and medium-term prognosis. The purpose of this study is to rapidly make available an early decision-making tool (from the first hospital consultation of the patient with symptoms related to SARS-CoV-2) based on the integration of several biomarkers (clinical, biological, imaging by thoracic scanner) allowing both personalized medicine and better anticipation of the patient's evolution in terms of care organization.

Until now there is no vaccine or reliable treatment for the COVID-19 pandemic. The fundamental mechanisms of non-invasive low-level laser in photobiomodulation (PBM) and photodynamic therapy is to stimulate the mitochondrial respiratory chain where a transient release of non-cytotoxic levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) will lead to positive modulation of the immune response. As previous studies mentioned that the most important strategy for COVID-19 management is oxygenation and faster rehabilitation of the damaged tissue, antiviral effects, and, finally, reduction or controlling the cytokine storm by reducing inflammatory agents. PBM may be used as adjuvant therapy or even an alternative therapy in all these mechanisms without side effects and drug interactions. Objectives The objective of this clinical trial is to use the photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), and photodynamic therapy as adjuvant therapy or even an alternative therapy for Covide-19. Patients and methods A randomized controlled study will be conducted on 60 patients of positive COVID 19. The patients will be divided into 3 equal groups. Group, I will receive a low-level laser (diode laser 980nm) from laser watch for 30 minutes, 20 J for 3 to 5 days, and laser acupuncture. Group 2 will be treated with photodynamic therapy by injecting the methylene blue as a photosensitizer and irradiated with laser watch (diode laser 670 nm). Group 3 will serve as a control. Evaluation methods will include laboratory investigations and CT chest.

The purpose of this research study is 1) to conduct a prospective longitudinal surveillance research trial, enrolling up to 200 CCHMC employees as they come back to work, and then following their clinical and laboratory parameters for up to 12 months; and 2) to support the ongoing development of diagnostic techniques for COVID-19. The overall goal is to investigate patterns of SARS-COV-2 infection, including immunological recovery and genetic risk factors, among CCHMC employees to better understand how to safely reintroduce the CCHMC work force back into their normal routines.

Plasma from patients who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is referred to as COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP), and may contain antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. CCP infusion is being evaluated as a therapeutic or prophylactic approach in COVID-19 patients. The goal of this study is to help develop a bank of convalescent plasma in California, especially in medically underserved communities particularly affected by the disease. In parallel, CCP administered to COVID-19 patients will be collected and analyzed to determine whether the antibody profile correlates with clinical outcome. The purpose of this non-therapeutic study is to learn more about the CCP antibody profile and the effect it may have in treating COVID-19 infection.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory tract infection caused by a newly emergent coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that can progress to severe disease requiring hospitalization and oxygen support in around14% of the cases and 5% require admission in intensive care unit. The medium and long-term impact in survivors of severe COVID-19 on lung function, exercise capacity and health-related quality of life remains to be determined.

The United Kingdom and wider world is in the midst of the 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. Accurate diagnosis of infection, identification of immunity and monitoring the clinical progression of infection are of paramount importance to our response. Widespread population testing has proven difficult in western countries and has been limited by test availability, human resources and long turnaround times (up to 72 hours). This has limited our ability to control the spread of infection and to develop effective clinical pathways to enable early social isolation of infected patients and early treatment for those most at risk. The life sciences industry has responded to the pandemic by developing multiple new in vitro diagnostic tests (IVDs). To leverage the potential clinical benefit of those tests we require efficient but robust clinical evaluation. Therefore, to optimise resource utilisation in this global pandemic, we will conduct a platform adaptive diagnostic study on a national level, utilising a national network of expertise in the evaluation of diagnostic technology. This study will enable the evaluation of multiple assays in three priority areas: 1. Evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of IVDs for active infection with SARS-CoV-2 2. Evaluation of assays monitoring the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection 3. Evaluation of the prognostic value of commercially available tests for predicting prognosis in patients with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. (This arm will not be active immediately but may be activated after initiation).
