Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This is a Phase II interventional study will test the efficacy of quintuple therapy (Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Zinc) in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 infection).

The Covid-19 viral pandemic has caused significant global losses and disruption to all aspects of society. One of the major difficulties in controlling the spread of this coronavirus has been the delayed and mild (or lack of) presentation of symptoms in infected individuals, and the insufficient Covid-19 testing capacity in the UK. This warrants the development of alternative diagnostic tools that reliably assess Covid-19 infection in the early stages of infection, while also being low- cost, low-burden, and easily administered to a wide proportion of the population. This study aims to validate machine learning models as a diagnostic tool that predicts infection with SARS-CoV-2 based on app-reported symptoms and phenotypic data, against the 'gold-standard' swab PCR-test. This study will take place within the Covid Symptom Study app, the free symptom tracking mobile application launched in March 2020.

A descriptive study to characterize clinical, radiological, lung function and quality of life alterations in patients who survived a severe or critical disease caused by SARS-COV-2 virus, who were treated in the intensive care unit of a high complexity institution in Cali, Colombia.

RACONA is a prospective trial that will test the hypothesis that nafamostat can lower lung function deterioration and need for intensive care admission in COVID-19 patients. Design: Adult hospitalized COVID-19 patients will be randomized in a prospective double-blind randomized placebo-controlled study to test the clinical efficacy of nafamostat mesylate (administered intravenously) on top of best standard of care. Primary outcome measures: the time-to-clinical improvement, defined as the time from randomization to an improvement of two points (from the status at randomization) on a seven category ordinal scale or live discharge from the hospital, whichever comes first.

Emergent experimental and anecdotal evidence has indicated that critically ill COVID-19 patients demonstrate two patient sub-types (called phenotypes). In one group the disease progresses slowly and patients have a low potential of developing mild respiratory failure, but in the other group, an exaggerated immune response (hyper-inflammation/cytokine storm) may be linked to the onset of precipitous respiratory failure, termed acute respiratory distress syndrome. This syndrome is responsible for a large portion of COVID-19 associated mortality. Thus, determining links between hyper-inflammation and acute respiratory distress syndrome in COVID-19 patients is of immediate importance. Blood samples will undergo a number of analyses to help us to understand as much as possible about COVID-19. We will also study any differences in physiologic and cytokine levels before and after patients are treated with immunomodulatory therapies as part of clinical care in COVID-19 patients.

The treatments being investigated are: COVID-19: Lopinavir-Ritonavir, Hydroxychloroquine, Corticosteroids, Azithromycin, Colchicine, IV Immunoglobulin (children only), Convalescent plasma, Casirivimab+Imdevimab, Tocilizumab, Aspirin, Baricitinib, Empagliflozin, Sotrovimab, Molnupiravir, Paxlovid or Anakinra (children only) Influenza: Baloxavir marboxil, Oseltamivir, Low-dose corticosteroids - Dexamethasone Community-acquired pneumonia: Low-dose corticosteroids - Dexamethasone
Vanda Pharmaceuticals
This is a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled trial to investigate the efficacy and safety of tradipitant 85 mg orally given twice daily to treat inflammatory lung injury associated with severe or critical COVID-19 infection. On evaluation for enrollment, participant will need to meet all inclusion and exclusion criteria. If participant consents, they will be randomized 1:1 to treatment with either tradipitant 85 mg PO BID or placebo in addition to standard of care for COVID-19 infection as per the protocol at the treating hospital. NEWS 2 will be assessed at screening and daily following randomization. Inflammatory lab markers as detailed should be collected once per day in the morning, preferably at the same time every morning. All enrolled participants will have whole blood collected for whole genome sequencing.

The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that post-exposure prophylaxis with hydroxychloroquine will reduce the symptomatic secondary attack rate among household contacts of known or suspected COVID-19 patients.
