Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

A coronavirus pandemic began on 12/31/2020 with the first Chinese patient. As of 3/16/2020, the epidemic affects more than 100 countries with 169,000 official infections and 6,500 deaths. This virus causes a pathology ranging from simple flu symptoms in 80% of cases to acute respiratory distress syndromes requiring resuscitation in 5% of cases and a death rate of 1.4 to 4% of cases. The arrival in France on 02/25/2020 with an exponential development of the infection (more than 5,000 cases on 03/15/2020) was accompanied by an unprecedented number of calls to the French emergency service call number (15) of worried patients with overload and sometimes saturation of the service that can impact calls and the care of patients really recovering from an emergency. We previously developed a Moovcare® web application which showed a 7 months survival benefit by early detection of relapsed lung cancer based on the reporting of patient symptoms analyzed by a validated algorithm in 300 patients and 1 trial randomized. Another application for detecting and monitoring chemo-induced febrile aplasia appears to show a reduction in the number of hospitalizations for sepsis. Finally, Smokecheck, a self-assessment application for symptoms by smokers, has shown that it improves the detection of symptomatic operable bronchial cancers (9 to 24%, p = 0.04). The web application https://www.maladiecoronavirus.fr/ was developed with a group of physicians from the Institut Pasteur, Hospitals group of Paris, Hospitals of Lille and Rennes and the ILC Jean Bernard in Le Mans. It makes it possible to guide symptomatic patients and patients who wishing to know what to do (call their general practitioner, teleconsultation, or call emergency service) based on symptoms and predictive factors of severity. Following the availability of this new tool, we want to assess the impact of the application on the number and relevance of calls to emergency service.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) and the effect of COVID-19 on the microbiome (the microorganisms that live in and on the human body) in exposed household contacts of COVID-19. This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, meaning subjects will be randomly assigned to receive LGG or a placebo (an inactive substance given in the same form as the active substance) and will not know which product they are receiving. Subjects will participate in the study for around 60 days. All subjects must refrain from taking any other probiotics while on study. All subjects must have access to e-mail and the internet to complete study questionnaires. Participation in this study entails taking LGG/placebo for 28 days, responding to questionnaires, and providing stool and nasal swab samples.

During the last couple of years, a growing number of wearable devices evolved to provide accurate, cheap and non-invasive monitoring of vitals parameters. This connected care technology could be helpful for treatment and care during a pandemic such as COVID-19. The use of these non-invasive remote monitoring devices can help health care providers to assess patient's vital signs and symptom progression, reducing reducing patient and healthcare provider contact and exposure to COVID-19 during this pandemic.

Introduction: The SARS Co-2 contagious rate is high (Ro: 2.0-3.0). The infection is aggressive with high pathogenicity. Global confinement impacts all social and economic fields of human activity. Clinical behavior exceeds the capabilities of public health care. With the initial information on the pandemic, it is estimated that 20% of health personnel in direct contact with patients can acquire the disease, despite preventive self-care. The molecular relationship of COVID-19 with the subject's ACE2 protein encourages the virus to enter the host cell, and initiates replication and the immune response, causing an imbalance generating an immunological storm of cytokines, with serious damage to the host. Objective: It is proposed to supply a combined scheme of two compounds by oropharyngeal spray that captures the virus before entering the target cell and orally administer immunomodulatory compounds that regulate the inflammatory response released by the virus, in order to improve the antiviral response. Methodology: A controlled, parallel design, triple-blind, phase II clinical trial will be conducted with two study groups to compare the active compounds (oropharyngeal spray and emulsion) with placebo. Discussion: With the application of the combined scheme of two compounds, a 75% reduction in infection is expected for workers in direct contact with COVID patients.

This study intends to find out how a cloth mask may impact exercise capacity, to provide guidance for exercisers to adjust their expectations and training accordingly. The investigators plan to asses exercise capacity through estimated peak oxygen consumption (eVO2peak), oxygen saturation and level of perceived exertion during treadmill based exercise while wearing a cloth mask compared to exercising without a cloth mask. The potential significance of this study is to determine if subjects can exercise safely and if their exercise training needs to be adjusted while following the current recommendations of wearing a cloth mask in public. The degree of airflow limitation experienced will depend on the type and fit of the mask being worn, and inadequeate airflow could possibly result in CO2 re-breathing if all air was not fully discharged from the mask with each breath. This re-breathing of CO2 could potentially limit the workload leading to a detriment in performance, and increase in adverse symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, chest pain or shortness of breath that does not improve with rest.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a global pandemic and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The mortality rate for COVID-19 patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) who require mechanical intubation is approximately 75%. While the pathophysiology of severe COVID-19 has yet to be fully understood, it is possible that a combination of high viral loads and an overactive dysregulated inflammatory response may contribute. Therefore, the clearance of SARS-CoV-2 virus and cytokines could provide a more opportunistic environment for the innate immune system to clear the virus and establish lasting immunity. The Seraph®-100 Microbind® Affinity Blood Filter (Seraph®-100) is an extracorporeal broad-spectrum sorbent hemoperfusion filter for removing virus and cytokines from the blood. The FDA authorized an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for treatment of severe COVID-19 with the Seraph®-100. As part of the EUA, this registry study will collect de-identified data to assess safety and efficacy on the use of Seraph®-100 Microbind® Affinity Blood Filter in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The FDA has provided an emergency waiver for the use of non-invasive continuous glucose monitors (CGM) in hospitals, so frontline health care providers (in hospitals) can remotely monitor patients with diabetes thus reducing patient's discomfort, limiting exposure to COVID-19 and preserving critical personal protective equipment (PPE). The FreeStyle Libre 14-day system is a continuous glucose monitoring system consisting of a handheld reader (smart phone may be used) and a sensor applied with adhesive to back of the upper arm. In order to evaluate the reliability of the Freestyle Libre CGM for in-patient use, we propose a study which will examine the correlation between the libre CGM data and capillary blood glucose test - the current standard of care taken by the Accuchek Inform II platform.
