Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This is a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, two-arm study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of BIO 300 Oral Suspension (BIO 300) as a therapy to improve lung function in patients that were hospitalized for severe COVID-19-related illness and continue to experience post-acute respiratory complications associated with Long-COVID after discharge. Patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive BIO 300 or placebo.
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
This trial aims to assess the accuracy and test-retest variability of a new digital app which enables community visual acuity testing without requirement of an trained examiner.
Hôpital Européen Marseille
The purpose of the study is to assess seroprevalence of COVID-19 infection in a cohort of HIV + patients and in a cohort of patients taking PrEP by emtricitabine / tenofovir.
ReAlta Life Sciences, Inc.
The aim of this study will test the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of RLS-0071 for approximately 28 days in comparison to a placebo control in patients with acute lung injury due to COVID-19 pneumonia in early respiratory failure. Patients will be randomized and double-blinded for two parts, a single-ascending dose (SAD) part and a multiple-ascending dose (MAD) part. The name of the study drug involved in this study is: RLS-0071.
Professor Dr. Bernd Mühlbauer
This study is an adaptive, randomized, open-label, controlled clinical trial, performed worldwide in collaboration with WHO and INSERM.
Savicell Diagnostics Ltd
The analysis method described in this protocol is a novel simple plausible immunological approach which is non-invasive, high throughput, real-time quantitative monitoring of metabolic activity (MA) profiles of fresh Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) in response to various reagents at different concentrations. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the T cells reactivity to SARS COV 2 immunogenic selected peptides by Metabolic Activity Method in convalesce and healthy individuals and to compare it with Antibody response (ELISA) and clinical information
D'Or Institute for Research and Education
A Phase I/II clinical trial for safety and efficacy evaluation of treatment with anti-SARS-CoV-2 equine immunoglobulin (F(ab')2) in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 not requiring of invasive ventilation support.
ScandiBio Therapeutics AB
This open label, randomized, controlled, investigator-initiated, multi-centre trial aims to establish metabolic improvements in COVID-19 subjects by dietary supplementation with cofactors N-acetylcysteine, L-carnitine tartrate, nicotinamide riboside and serine plus standard therapy. The primary objective is to assess the clinical efficacy of the combination of metabolic cofactors supplementation and hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 patients.

The objective of this compassionate use study is to provide access and evaluate the outcome of Remdesivir and COVID-19 convalescent plasma use in patients with COVID-19. This protocol provides a coordinated approach for distribution and guidance for safe and effective administration of Remdesivir and convalescent plasma with antibodies against SARS CoV-2 for treatment of patients with COVID-19 infection who are most likely to benefit from this investigational treatment and monitor them for the following specific objectives and outcomes: SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 1. Provide access to convalescent plasma for hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 infection (compassionate use, expanded access program) 2. Monitor safety of the therapy with convalescent plasma containing antibodies against SAR CoV-2 and Remdesivir for hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 infection 3. Evaluate outcomes in patients who received convalescent COVID-19 plasma therapy alone, Remdesivir alone, and both agents. Study Design: This study will be a prospective, observational clinical study with an intention-to-treat, cross-over design. Comparison groups will be patients who received convalescent plasma vs. those who received Remdesivir. In addition, cross-over to convalescent plasma arm will be allowed for patients who continued to get worse even after receiving Remdesivir for more than 48 hours.
