Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This is a phase I trial followed by a phase II randomized trial. The purpose of phase I study is the feasibility of treating patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) related to COVID-19 infection (COVID-19) with cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). The purpose of the phase II trial is to compare the effect of MSC with standard of care in these patients. MSCs are a type of stem cells that can be taken from umbilical cord blood and grown into many different cell types that can be used to treat cancer and other diseases. The MSCs being used for infusion in this trial are collected from healthy, unrelated donors and are stored and grown in a laboratory. Giving MSC infusions may help control the symptoms of COVID-19 related ARDS.
Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, Amiens
The data obtained from Covid-19 infections seem to suggest that the immunogenesis of Covid-19 could in some cases be the result of immune dysregulation. On the other hand, endocrine damage is possible at the tile of Covid-19 infection (mainly thyroid, adrenal, and hypothalamus). These disorders are autoimmune or linked to degeneration. The main objective is to assess the thyroid function (thyrotropic axis) as well as the corticotropic adrenal function of patients who have had Copvid-19 pneumonia. The secondary objectives is to describe the pathophysiological mechanisms of pulmonary and vasculothrombotic involvement of Covid-19
Fundacion Clinica Valle del Lili
A descriptive study to characterize clinical, radiological, lung function and quality of life alterations in patients who survived a severe or critical disease caused by SARS-COV-2 virus, who were treated in the intensive care unit of a high complexity institution in Cali, Colombia.
Grifols Therapeutics LLC
The purpose of the study is to determine if Liquid Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor (Human) (Liquid Alpha1-PI) plus SMT can reduce the proportion of participants dying or requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission on or before Day 29 or who are dependent on high flow oxygen devices or invasive mechanical ventilation on Day 29 versus placebo plus SMT in hospitalized participants with COVID-19.
CSL Behring
CSL760 is a human hyperimmune product of the purified gamma immunoglobulin (IgG) fraction of human plasma containing polyvalent neutralizing antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). CSL is evaluating CSL760 as a passive immunotherapy for COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019).
Jiangsu Province Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
This is a phase I, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study, to evaluate safety and immunogenicity of a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CHO cell) in Chinese healthy population aged 18 years and older. After randomization, the trial for each subject will last for approximately 13 months. Screening period is 1 week prior to randomization (Day -7 to Day -1), and each dose of either SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CHO Cell) or placebo will be given intramuscularly (IM) on Day 0 and Day 14 for a two-dose regimen, or on Day 0, Day 14, and Day 28 for a three-dose regimen. Subjects who are ≥18 years old and ≤ 59 years old will be enrolled in adult group, and healthy elderly population who are >59 years old will be enrolled in elderly group. After adult group completes the follow-up 7 days after first vaccination, elderly group will be recruited.
Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris
The purpose of this study is to assess whether immunosuppressive therapies used by patients with chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases have an impact on the viral load and the humoral and cellular responses during viral infection with SarSCoV2, compared to members of their family cluster infected with the same viral strain.
NGM Biopharmaceuticals, Inc
This study is a combined Phase 1 and Phase 2 study with IV infusion of NGM621 to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and PK in healthy volunteers (Part 1), and safety, tolerability, PK and efficacy in subjects with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection (Part 2).
First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University
Since december 2019, acute respiratory disease due to 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) emerged in Wuhan city and rapidly spread throughout China. There is no confirmed antivirus therapy for 2019-nCoV infection. Natural killer (NK) cells are innate lymphocytes that may serve as useful effectors against danger infection. The purpose of this clinical investigation is to evaluate the safety and efficiency of NK Cells in combination with standard therapy for pneumonia patients infected with 2019-nCoV.
Shenzhen Geno-Immune Medical Institute
In December 2019, viral pneumonia caused by a novel beta-coronavirus (Covid-19) broke out in Wuhan, China. Some patients rapidly progressed and suffered severe acute respiratory failure and died, making it imperative to develop a safe and effective vaccine to treat and prevent severe Covid-19 pneumonia. Based on detailed analysis of the viral genome and search for potential immunogenic targets, a synthetic minigene has been engineered based on conserved domains of the viral structural proteins and a polyprotein protease. The infection of Covid-19 is mediated through binding of the Spike protein to the ACEII receptor, and the viral replication depends on molecular mechanisms of all of these viral proteins. This trial proposes to develop and test innovative Covid-19 minigenes engineered based on multiple viral genes, using an efficient lentiviral vector system (NHP/TYF) to express viral proteins and immune modulatory genes to modify dendritic cells (DCs) and to activate T cells. In this study, the safety and efficacy of this LV vaccine (LV-SMENP) will be investigated.
