Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This study aims to evaluate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of molnupiravir (MK-4482) compared to placebo. The primary hypothesis is that molnupiravir is superior to placebo as assessed by the rate of sustained recovery through Day 29.
Pfizer
The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of PF-06650833 in addition to standard-of-care compared to standard-of-care treatment alone in improving outcomes in patients with COVID-19.

Randomized, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of a single dose of STI-1499 (COVI-GUARD™) in hospitalized patients with moderate COVID-19
Demikhov Municipal Clinical Hospital 68
At the beginning COVID-associated lung injury was considered as typical ARDS, hence respiratory and nonrespiratory treatments were delivered according to general principles for this kind of illness. There is hypothesis that in predisposed individuals, alveolar viral damage is followed by an inflammatory reaction and by microvascular pulmonary thrombosis. The investigators suggest that thrombolytic therapy may be beneficial when compared to standard care in patients with SARS-CoV-2 and severe respiratory failure.
R-Pharm
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of a single dose of OKZ (64 mg) vs placebo in addition to standard therapy in patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19) at Day 29.
University of Chile
Steroids has shown benefits in COVID19 patients in observational studies. We hypothesized that early use of corticosteroids, low dose, in mild disease, can decrease progression to respiratory failure and death.
St. Paul's Hospital, Canada
The aim of this study is to determine if Povidone iodine (PVP-I) rinses and throat gargles or a PVP-I gel forming nasal spray compared to a placebo (a treatment that has no physical effect to a person) is an effective treatment for patients diagnosed with COVID-19. These patients have been diagnosed with mild/moderate COVID-19 symptoms and sent home for self-isolation. Patients will be instructed to take either of the two treatments or placebo twice daily for two weeks and have follow up visits 2 and 4 weeks after. The participants will also complete study related procedures such as saliva sample collection, and two questionnaires throughout the study period. The investigators hypothesize that COVID 19 positive participants who use either of the Povidone - Iodine treatment will have a reduction in their viral load, develop a negative oral mucosa sample and improve their clinical symptoms.

Pharmacological therapies of proven efficacy in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are still lacking. Since two clinical stages of COVID-19 are emerging, an early one with typical clinical characteristics of a viral infection (fever, malaise, cough) and a later one with pneumonia leading to progressive respiratory failure, associated with heavy, cytokine-mediated, inflammation, an intervention by a compound possessing both antiviral activity and immunomodulatory effects would be most effective at the earliest possible stage. The purpose of this clinical trial is to test the efficacy of Interferon-β-1a (IFNβ-1a), in COVID-19 patients in an open label, randomized clinical trial. The design of the study is to test IFNβ-1a in addition to standard of care compared with standard of care alone. The primary outcome is the time to negative conversion of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-CoronaVirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) nasopharyngeal swabs.
