Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This research study is designed to investigate the effects of a remotely delivered simple cognitive task (a memory cue followed by playing the computer game "Tetris" with mental rotation instructions) on intrusive memories ("flashbacks") and other symptoms after a traumatic event(s). Hospital staff who experienced a work-related traumatic event(s) during the COVID-19 pandemic will be randomly allocated to either the simple cognitive task intervention or control. Randomization to assigned intervention occurs on Day 1, after completion of baseline measures (note: baseline measures are not used in randomization process). Baseline measures include questionnaires on Day 1 and an intrusive memory diary during the previous week (Week 0). Participants will be followed up at one week and one month, and where possible 3 and 6 months. It is predicted that participants given the simple cognitive task intervention will develop fewer intrusive memories, less severe related clinical symptoms, and will show higher functioning (e.g. at work) than those who are not. This will inform the future development of a simple technique to prevent distressing psychological symptoms after a traumatic event(s). Implementation and training aspects regarding remote recruitment and intervention delivery in a hospital context will also be explored. Participants use e.g. their smartphone for part of the intervention in the study.

This study will help the investigators understand whether it is feasible and acceptable for people to practice trauma-informed yoga using a pre-recorded video. This study will also explore the immediate effects of trauma-informed yoga on anxiety, mindfulness, and body awareness. The results of this study will inform future research on remote delivery of trauma-informed yoga for supporting psychological wellbeing.

As a result of the pandemic, hygiene and distancing rules must be followed in Health care/ rehabilitation clinics to ensure the safety of patients and staff. This has led to extensive changes in the therapy processes, including a reduction in group sizes and maintaining distances within the groups, resulting in a reduction in the range of therapies available to individuals, since the number of employees remains unchanged and cannot be increased at will and in the short term due to the lack of qualified staff. In order for the treatment/rehabilitation goals to be achieved nonetheless, new forms of implementation of therapy programs must be developed in addition to organizational adjustments. Digitalization can be a significant support in this respect. The majority of patients in psychosomatic rehabilitation possess smartphones, meaning that the necessary infrastructure for the utilization of digital offers is available and can be used to the greatest possible extent. The use of digital measures within the therapeutic services supports the independence of the patients, as they can use the digital offers independently and flexibly in their own time. How should Health care/rehabilitation services be designed in light of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and which services have the potential to buffer future crises: What general recommendations can be derived for the design of such services for routine care? What are support measures to encourage social participation and return to work?

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted anesthesia care all over the world. There remains very little data on current practice patterns and patient outcomes, particularly in anesthetized children. This is a prospective observational, multi-center study to investigate airway management related outcomes in children undergoing anesthesia during this pandemic. The investigators will compare the incidence of complications (particularly hypoxemia) in patients with COVID-19 to those who are COVID-19 negative during airway management. Our society is going through an unprecedented situation: the COVID 19 Pandemic is forcing many populations, worldwide, into confinement for their own protection. The very characteristics of this confinement and of the disease (isolation, potential severity of the illness, being psychologically unprepared for such a circumstance) have a significant impact on one's psyche, like emotional disorders -anxiety/depression-, difficulties when returning to normal life, vicarious traumas… Confinement is paradoxical in as although well-intended to protect the individual, it leads to the isolation of the individual. This paradox is destabilizing one's feelings, because when the investigators feel the need for protection and reassurance, the investigators are left alone and feel abandoned. The investigators therefore understand that this confinement framework is in essence a situation that might revive unresolved deprivation situations from the childhood. How to react in front of this upsurge in anxiety? Strategies used may include, among others, escape in the imaginary through numerical tools or others, and /or going to the actual characterized by deviant sexual behaviours. The investigators know in fact that certain moments, like anxiety, depression, boredom, psychological unrest are propicious for acting, for violent sexual offenders. The investigators therefore pay extra attention to our patients in such periods favoring these kinds of trouble. This study will enable us to understand if the confinement associated with COVID 19 has generated anxiety that lead sexual offenders or individuals with paraphilic disorders to engage into deviant fantasies or, potentially sexual activities.

Investigators study meet the World Health Organization definition of a clinical trial because it is a prospective study in which participants will be assigned to intervention groups to investigate the effects on health outcomes. Investigators highlighted clearly the real problem that indigeneous patients are facing now in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: Poverty meaning the lack of money to buy goods and drugs. From the news report, investigators learned that "In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, indigenous communities in Kananga, Tshikapa and in the Kasai region are increasing their consumption of "Vernonia amygdalina," a traditional plant believed to cure several diseases, including alleviating COVID-19." Based on an unpublished work, quite a few extract molecules of Vernonia amygdalina are excellent antiviral candidates which are the family members of Remdesivir in terms of their antiviral mechanisms. Furthermore, the antiviral capabilities of these molecules are significantly stronger than or at least equivalent to Remdesivir. The target zones of these molecules in the human body cover a set of important organs and tissues. For example, Vernolide (C19H22O7) is able to reside firmly at bronchi, the upper respiratory tract, and blood vessels. From the news report, investigators learned also that Herbs used in Tanzania include lemon, ginger, neem tree leaves, mango tree leaves, orange tree leaves. These traditional medicines contain, more or less, antiviral molecules whose capacities range from good to outstanding levels. Those herbs have been used worldwide to fight COVID-19. In conclusion traditional medicines have been playing important roles not only in Africa but also in Asia, in South America, etc. Herbs prove themselves with effective efficacies in many therapeutic practices. So maybe after careful considerations, the World Health Organization may support the use of herbs for poor patients who cannot afford modern drugs and used traditional medicines after a positive COVID-19 test in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Investigators are talking about a randomisation's nuance process to follow participants who decide by themselves if diagnosed positive to COVID-19 to begin to take herbs not waiting for a physician prescription.
