Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

More than 400,000 people in the UK live in care homes. These individuals are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19; many are frail and the majority have concurrent physical health problems and dementia. This group are at the highest risk of becoming severely ill with COVID-19 and are dependent on a stretched care workforce. The isolation, together with the stresses and distressing nature of the current work environment is also likely to have an impact on the mental health and well-being of care staff. It is vital to provide good quality support to enable care staff to remain resilient, and to enable good quality care that maintains the well-being of residents with dementia and reduces emerging neuropsychiatric symptoms in residents without increasing harmful sedative medications. COVID E-WHELD is based on the optimized WHELD training intervention on successfully completed in randomised clinical trials (RCTs) in 86 care homes, more than 1000 people with dementia. WHELD reduced use of anti-psychotics, improved agitation and overall neuropsychiatric symptoms, improved quality of life and reduced mortality for people with dementia. A digital version of WHELD (eWHELD) with virtual supervision in a further care home RCT including 130 people with dementia has demonstrated benefits for staff carers and improvements in the quality of life of people with dementia, with eWHELD combined with virtual supervision, but not with e-learning alone. The current project will evaluate a COVID-19 adapted version of eWHELD to address current needs of care homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be undertaken in a 2 arm, 4 month, randomized cluster RCT in 1280 care homes (allowing for 75% drop out with COVID-19 outbreaks) to determine whether COVID-19 adapted eWHELD improves quality of life and mental health for people with dementia in care homes and the mental health of care staff.

Since 2000, various emerging infectious diseases have repeatedly caused serious impact on the health of the global population and the healthcare systems. With the growing international transportation and improving accessibility of the healthcare systems, hospitals have been inevitably the first sentinels dealing with emerging infectious diseases. The biological disasters, such as the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003, the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) outbreak in South Korean in 2015, and the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak this year, challenged our vulnerable healthcare systems and caused great loss of lives. Regarding the ongoing global epidemics and possible community outbreaks of the COVID-19, the management of biological disasters for an overcrowded emergency department should be planned. In the early 2020, the emergency department used a double-triage and telemedicine method to treat non-critical patient with suspected COVID-19. This application reduced the exposure time of the first responders and reserve adequate interview quality. However, for the critical patients treated in the isolated resuscitation rooms, the unique environment limited the teamwork and communication for the resuscitation team. These factors might led to poorer quality of critical care. The investigators designed a telemedicine-teamwork model, which connected the isolation room, prepare room and nursing station by an video-conferencing system in the emergency department. This model try to break the barriers of space between the rooms and facilitate the teamwork communications between each unit. Besides, by providing a more efficient workflow, this model could lower the total exposure time for all workers in the contaminated area. This study was conducted to evaluate the benefits of the telemedicine-teamwork model and provide a practical, safe and effective alternative to critical care of the patients with suspected highly infectious diseases.

This is a prospective study involving 50 patients, with acute SARS-CoV-2 infection and a positive RNA detection. Men will give semen, saliva, urine and blood specimens following RT-PCR diagnosis and 15, 30, 60 and 90 days after. SARS-CoV-2 RNA will be detected in seminal plasma, native semen cells and processed spermatozoa. The purpose of this study is to seek the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in semen, to determine its localization and infectiousness and to assess the efficiency of spermatozoa processing methods to obtain virus free spermatozoa.

The new type of Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) epidemic puts great pressure on health systems around the world. A large number of people are hospitalized in intensive care units due to acute respiratory distress syndrome due to SARS-CoV-2. Common symptoms seen with SARS-CoV-2 include fever, cough, and dyspnea, as well as pneumonia, severe acute respiratory distress syndrome, renal failure, and even death. Many patients develop mild to moderate disease without pneumonia. The respiratory condition of some patients continues to worsen gradually and develop acute respiratory distress syndrome, which usually requires mechanical ventilation support. Exercise capacity and health status of individuals who survived severe acute respiratory distress syndrome are lower than the general population. Persistent physical, cognitive, and psychosocial disorders can be seen in people who have survived acute respiratory distress syndrome. Given the clinical and radiological heterogeneity of COVID-19, it is important to have a simple tool for the disease to monitor the course of symptoms and the impact of symptoms on patients' functional status. Klok FA et al. developed the Post-COVID-19 Functional Status Scale (PCFS). PCFS can be evaluated for functional sequelae after discharge from the hospital, at 4 and 8 weeks after discharge, to directly monitor recovery, and at 6 months. The aim of this study is to investigate the validity and reliability of PCFS in Turkish population. Research permission to investigate the validity and reliability of PCFS in the Turkish population was obtained from the developer of the PCFS.

Lifespan Cancer Institute serves over 50% of cancer patients in the state. Rhode Island is known for strong medical care and high rates of cancer screening with mammography and colonoscopy. However, cancer screening has plummeted during the COVID-19 pandemic, in part to closing physician offices and stopping non-urgent medical procedures. In addition, anecdotal reports suggest the public remains concerned about returning to physician's offices and risking possible exposure to COVID-19. As in the United States as a whole, COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted ethnic and minority individuals within underserved communities; and in Rhode Island, African Americans, Hispanics and undocumented individuals living in communities such as Central Falls, Pawtucket, Providence, East Providence and North Providence have had the highest rate of COVID-19. These communities are also impacted by healthcare disparities to access and affordability of healthcare, and as such, may be among the least likely to resume cancer screening. The Lifespan Cancer Institute will institute a project to address health disparities in cancer screening during the pandemic through the use of a targeted campaign involving social media. The goals will be to re-establish screening in the era of COVID-19 and ensure timeliness of care for those found to be at risk, or are positive for, cancer.
