Uganda hosts 1.4 million refugees, making it Sub-Saharan Africa's largest refugee host community and the third largest globally. Adolescents and young people (AYP) comprise half of the world's 70.8 million forcibly displaced persons, yet they are understudied in pandemics, including in COVID-19. Poverty, overcrowded living conditions, and poor sanitation likely elevate forcibly displaced persons' COVID-19 risks by limiting their ability to practice mitigation strategies. There continue to be significant knowledge gaps regarding the implementation and effectiveness of behaviour change interventions on improving COVID-19 prevention practices (i.e. hand and respiratory hygiene, physical distancing). mHealth (healthcare delivered by mobile phones) is cost-effective, aligned with how youth learn and socialize, vital for physical distancing, and has been used for COVID-19 messaging in other low- and middle-income countries. Nested within an ongoing HIV self-testing cluster-randomized trial, this study aims to develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of an mHealth intervention in increasing COVID-19 prevention practices with displaced/refugee AYP aged 16-24 in Kampala, Uganda. Participants will be enrolled in a 8-week mHealth social group intervention program that is informed by the RANAS (Risks, Attitudes, Norms, Abilities, and Self-Regulation) approach to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. Using a pre-test/post-test design, this study will assess changes in participants' self-efficacy (e.g. ability, confidence, adherence) in COVID-19 prevention practices.

This single blind, randomized, controlled trial (RCT) evaluates, a nonpharmacological intervention, TM (Transcendental Meditation) for improving burnout (, as measured by self-reporting (survey), physiologic, and neuro-functional imaging studies in health care providers (HCPs) when practiced over 3 months' time. The investigators define HCPs as any physician, physician trainee, nurse, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or respiratory therapist. HCPs will be screened by a single-item stress scale and Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (CSSRS) to understand their stress level and exclusion criteria respectively. The Global Severity Index of the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI)-18 Global Severity score will be used as the primary outcome for pre- and post-TM training (baseline, 1 vs. 3 months). In addition, the investigators will evaluate physiological markers of stress and cardiovascular resiliency such as 1) changes (pre/post-treatment) in heart rate variability (HRV) through wearables, 2) Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) - changes in sweat gland activity that result from changes in an emotional state. fMRI will be performed by the Duke Brain Imaging and Analysis Center (BIAC) on a subset of participants to evaluate changes A specifically developed mobile app will aid data collection as well as reminders for providers to aid compliance for meditation

It is expected that large numbers of healthcare workers will experience a broad range of psychological reactions and symptoms including anxiety, depression, moral distress, and trauma symptoms that will cause both significant suffering as well as occupational and social impairment. The purpose of this study is to find interventions which are helpful in treating psychological distress in healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients. There are two phases of the study. All participants will take part in Phase I, which consists of 4 sessions over a two-week period of either a narrative writing intervention or a medical music intervention. Participants will be randomly assigned to the narrative writing intervention or medical music intervention. After Phase I, participants will be re-assessed. Healthcare workers who meet criteria for PTSD will be given the option to participate in Phase II of the study, in which they will be offered a choice between one of two evidence-based treatments for PTSD: Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) or Exposure Therapy (ET). Both treatments are comprised of ten 75-minute sessions scheduled twice weekly. Participants will be allowed to choose a preferred treatment in Phase II. After Phase II participants will complete a final assessment concluding the study. All interventions will be offered using distance technology.

Approximately 474 individuals will be randomized (1:1) with an interim analysis after the first 60 subjects (30 in each arm). The sample size will be re-assessed upon interim analysis. Approximately 135 individuals from selected study sites will be included in the substudy to assess the immune response and the methods of sampling. The primary goal for this study is to assess whether receiving the results of an antibody test changes protective behavior to avoid SARS-CoV-2 infections (i.e., mask-wearing, physical distancing, limiting close contacts/avoiding crowds, hand-washing, avoiding contact with high-risk individuals). While studies have been published on the cross-sectional relationship between risk perception and other demographic characteristics and health behaviors that are protective for SARS-CoV-2 infection (see citations), there have been no studies showing the effect of receiving information about antibody positivity on protective behavior. Not only can results from this study be used to better model transmission, a better understanding of college student's risk perception around SARS-CoV-2 infections has implications for future vaccination strategies as well. There are concerns that a desire to return to "normal" life in combination with reduced perception of risk could have negative consequences for uptake of vaccination (Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security 2020 report, The Public's Role in COVID-19 Vaccination: Planning Recommendations Informed by Design Thinking and the Social, Behavioral, and Communication Sciences). The antibody test used in this study is named 'SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG rapid assay kit (Colloidal Gold)'. It provides a fast, on-site, and accurate detection of IgM/IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, with positive results of IgM antibodies indicating a recent infection, while positive results of IgG antibodies signaling a longer or previous infection. It can detect IgM and IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in human specimens of serum, plasma, or venous whole blood.
