The Mental Health Among Patients, Providers, and Staff (MHAPPS) Study is designed to study how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected mental health and wellbeing, and how to support mental health while minimizing the burden on the healthcare system. The study will enroll adults and adolescents who have had a primary care visit in the last 12 months, as well as healthcare providers and staff from a large health system in Idaho. The study will include: Aim 1: a cross sectional survey to measure the prevalence of various measures of mental distress and how they are associated with COVID-19-related factors; and Aim 2: a randomized controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of two versions of a Caring Contacts intervention to reduce loneliness and mental distress.

People with chronic diseases including atherosclerotic heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes are considered as a group with a high vulnerability. The COVID-19 pandemic ranging the world is rendering these people with chronic diseases even more vulnerable as they are subjected to a higher risk of COVID-19 related complications. General recommendations issued by the public health departments (PHD) do not take into consideration the personal situation of every citizen and therefore do not provide a personalized guidance to people with high vulnerability. The investigators hypothesis is that if participants receive adapted and personalized public health recommendations, they will be more adherent to the recommendations issued by the PHD and have better health outcomes than those who receive only general recommendations. In the current trial, the investigators propose to co-develop a web-based portal (Vigie-COVID) that provides tailored recommendations based on the situation of each participant and adapted to the COVID-19 status, the behavior risk associated to contamination, the risk of complications and the health risks related to confinement. Using a cohort of people aged 18 and over in the province of Quebec, this randomized clinical trial will use a nested a double-blind experimental design where the tailored recommendations will be compared to the general recommendations of the PHD. The expected results from this trial include: 1) Improvement in the rate of compliance with the PHD recommendations in the group receiving the tailored recommendations; 2) Improvement of the quality and the quantity of the COVID 19 epidemiological data available for population health research in the Quebec region; 3) Decrease in the load in clinics (self-diagnosis); 4) Improving the state of health of individuals. The portal will be co-constructed in collaboration between various key players (citizens, patient partners, clinicians, researchers, companies, managers, decision-makers and representatives of the PHD) and aims to allow the recommendations of the PHD to be tailored according to the specific situation of each citizen-user in order to promote preventive behavior in times of pandemic. Overall, the ultimate goal is to obtain a global epidemiological portrait in order to identify the determinants and indicators of sustainable health and their impacts. After the pandemic, this might enable the implementation of a personalized monitoring of chronic diseases.

The world is facing an extremely important global epidemic. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, which first appeared in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and rapidly affected all countries of the world, was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020. Coronavirus disease 2019 affects both the upper (i.e. sinuses, nose and throat) and lower (i.e. trachea and lungs) airways, causes respiratory tract diseases ranging from asymptomatic or cold to more severe lung diseases (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome-ARDS). COVID-19 has many symptoms (i.e. fever, loss of appetite). In cases where the disease has a more severe course, in addition to the symptoms mentioned above, complications such as a severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) kidney failure and fatal heart damage may develop. Dyspnea is one of the most prominent symptoms for COVID-19. Since COVID-19 affects the respiratory system, pulmonary rehabilitation has an important place in the treatment of patients. Dyspnea is one of the most prominent symptoms for COVID-19. Our clinical observations are of the opinion that dyspnea is observed even in patients with mild COVID-19 pneumonia. Applying deep breathing exercise with triflo in COVID-19 patients, can contribute to relieving dyspnea, reducing / eliminating anxiety, and increasing quality of life. In the light of this information, the aim of this study is to determine the effect of deep breathing exercise with triflo on dyspnea, anxiety and quality of life in patients with dyspnea who are hospitalized for COVID-19. Research Hypotheses H1: Patients with COVID-19 pneumonia who undergo deep breathing exercise with triflo will have a lower dyspnea level than the patient group in which this exercise is not applied. H2: Patients with COVID-19 pneumonia who underwent deep breathing exercise with triflo will have a lower anxiety level than the patient group in whom this exercise was not applied. H3: Patients with COVID-19 pneumonia who underwent deep breathing exercise with triflo will have a higher quality of life than the patient group in whom this exercise was not applied.

Loss of smell is very frequently found in Europe during Covid-19 attack. This symptom was not initially expected as part of the classic symptomatology. This loss of smell mainly concerns patients with few or no symptoms, without criteria of severity and usually treated on an outpatient basis. As a result, given the unexpected occurrence of this symptom (with less awareness in the general and medical population) and the potential risk of contamination of Covid+ and anosmic subjects (due to their less symptomatic form), it is interesting to be able to propose large-scale screening for loss of sense of smell in order to preferentially direct subjects diagnosed as anosmic towards RT-PCR-type screening. In the medium term, the loss of smell seems to persist after the infectious phase, with delayed or persistent recovery, which can lead to negative psychological repercussions. The objective is to propose large-scale screening of the general population for loss of sense of smell during a pandemic period, in order to facilitate diagnostic orientation of the population. The diagnosis of loss of smell will be carried out using a simple olfactory test in the form of an olfactory stick to be smelled.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic on March 11, 2020. As of 19 July 2020, there have been 14.3 million confirmed cases and over 600,000 confirmed deaths. Up to 14% of infected patients develop interstitial pneumonia, which may evolve to acute respiratory distress syndrome. COVID-19 associated pulmonary arterial microthrombosis and coagulopathy has prompted physicians to implicate pulmonary embolism (PE) as a potential cause for acute respiratory deterioration. Literature review reveals few studies of varying size, quality and design. Recent meta-analysis reports venous thromboembolism in approximately 20% of COVID-19 patients. There has yet to be a case-controlled study which proves and quantifies the associated between COVID-19 and PE.Confirming and quantifying this association has numerous clinical implications for the treatment of critically unwell patients with COVID-19 infection. For example, clinicians will be more inclined to investigate and treat sudden deteriorations with the knowledge that pulmonary embolism is the commonest cause for said deteriorations.

The pathogenesis of COVID-19, which is caused by the coronavirus species, which has become a global health problem affecting the lives of billions of people worldwide and is a member of the Betacoronavirus genus, is not fully understood. Although its pathogenesis is thought to be multifactorial, it results in a systemic hyperinflammatory response and associated thromboembolic complications in severe cases. It is thought that some vitamins and nutrients may be beneficial for COVID-19 infected patients due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Vitamins such as A, B, C, D, E and folate; trace elements such as iron, zinc, magnesium, selenium and copper play important roles in supporting both innate and adaptive immune systems, and studies have shown that the trace elements investigated have important roles in COVID-19. For this reason, it is important to investigate the levels of trace elements. In addition, while the disease spreads all over the world, individuals are required to stay at home for a long time against the risk of contamination. Due to these isolation and limitations, physical activity levels decrease in individuals. As reductions in the level of physical activity may cause possible secondary symptoms, another parameter is to determine the physical activity level in order to prevent the potential harmful effects of these protective lifestyle regulations related to COVID-19 and to prevent the restrictions from causing physical inactivity. This study is planning to conduct between January and February 2021 in order to compare the trace element levels in blood samples and physical activity levels of patients with COVID-19 (SARS CoV-2) who applied to Izmir Bakircay University Cigli Training and Research Hospital (Cigli Regional Training Hospital) and hospitalized in the COVID-19 service. It was planned as a prospective, randomized controlled trial. Research data will be obtained from blood samples taken from participants. In addition, data on physical activity levels will be collected through a questionnaire. After analyzing the data obtained from the research with appropriate statistical methods, the data will be evaluated.

With the rapid spread of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) disease all over the world and the announcement of a pandemic, researches on many different drug approaches have begun and these researches continue today. Considering the absence of a specific treatment for the disease yet and the urgency of the situation, drugs previously licensed for the treatment of other diseases and thought to be effective in COVID-19 have started to be used. Ongoing studies are conducted on the effectiveness, possible side effects and safety of these drugs in COVID-19, but there is no clear information yet. It is thought that the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of some vitamins and trace elements may be associated with positive results in COVID-19 patients, and the physiological roles of these vitamins and trace elements in COVID 19 have been demonstrated by studies. It is important to investigate the levels of free radicals known to be effective in the development of cardiovascular disease due to homocysteine and oxidative stress, which can provide information on determining the risk of cardiovascular complications in the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, as the decrease in physical activity levels of individuals in the COVID-19 pandemic may cause possible secondary complications such as an increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease, determining the physical activity levels of individuals and encouraging them to physical activity is another important parameter to minimize the negative effects of the process. It is thought that investigating the effects of the treatment approaches used in COVID-19 on trace element, homocysteine, oxidative stress parameters and physical activity levels will provide useful information in determining the factors underlying better clinical results. This study was planned to be carried out between 6-31 January 2021 in order to compare the trace element, homocysteine, oxidative stress parameters and physical activity levels before and after treatment for COVID-19 disease in COVID-19 patients who applied to Izmir Bakircay University Cigli Training and Research Hospital (Cigli Regional Training Hospital) and hospitalized in the COVID-19 service. Research data will be obtained from blood samples taken from participants. In addition, data on physical activity levels will be collected through a questionnaire.
