Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

The trial evaluates the efficacy and safety of Tocilizumab, which rapidly reduces the inflammation process through inhibition of IL-6 in patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 with increased inflammatory markers. There will be two arms in the trial, one receiving the best supportive care, and the other receiving it plus tocilizumab. Patients will be followed until Day 29 after randomization.
CTI BioPharma
This is a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of pacritinib in hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 with or without cancer.
Ascension South East Michigan
This study is a comparison of the ID Now COVID-19 (Abbott) assay to the Accula SARS-CoV-2 (Mesa Biotech) assay to assist in the identification of infection with COVID-19. The tests will be compared for sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value.
Baylor College of Medicine
This is a dose-finding safety trial followed by a randomized pilot trial comparing administration of SARS-CoV2-specific T cells (SARS-CoVSTs) to standard of care treatment in hospitalized patients with COVID19 who are at high risk of requiring mechanical ventilation. The SARS-CoVSTs lines have been made at Baylor College of Medicine from healthy donors who have made a full recovery from COVID19. These cell lines were frozen for later use and will be thawed and used to treat patients who meet the eligibility criteria.

Resveratrol is a plant polyphenol (that is sold commercially as a supplement) that might help fight coronavirus as well as help protect the body from the effects of disease (COVID-19) caused by the infection. In this proof-of-concept pilot study we will compare the effects of resveratrol to placebo to assess the safety of the resveratrol and explore effectiveness.
University of Zurich
The OVID study will show whether prophylactic-dose enoxaparin improves survival and reduces unplanned hospitalizations in ambulatory patients aged 50 or older diagnosed with COVID-19, a novel viral disease characterized by severe systemic, pulmonary, and vessel inflammation and coagulation activation.
Hope Pharmaceuticals
This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravenous Sodium Nitrite Injection for treatment of patients infected with COVID-19 who develop lung injury and require mechanical ventilation.
McGill University Health Centre/Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre
Study Objective: To test if early preemptive hydroxychloroquine therapy can prevent disease progression in persons with known symptomatic COVID-19 disease, decreasing hospitalizations and symptom severity.
Bellerophon Pulse Technologies
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to assess the efficacy and safety of pulsed inhaled iNO compared to placebo in subjects with COVID-19.
University Hospital - Newark, NJ
This is an expanded access program providing COVID-19 convalescent plasma to patients hospitalized with severely or life-threateningly ill COVID-19.
