Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

The purpose of this registry study is to investigate the effectiveness and safety of the Seraph® 100 Microbind® Affinity Blood Filter (Seraph 100) in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The 2019-20 coronavirus disease, caused by COVID-19, is an ongoing pandemic. So far, no specific treatment has proven efficacy. Recent case series reported the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) on 5 severe COVID-19 patients who developed respiratory insufficiency. HBOT mechanisms of tissue oxygenation and anti-inflammatory effect may explain these findings. The purpose of the current study is the evaluate the efficacy of HBOT in moderate-severe COVID-19 patients in a randomized controlled manner.

Brief Summary: SARS-CoV-2 virus infection is known to cause Lung Injury that begins as dyspnea and exercise intolerance, but may rapidly progress to Critical COVID-19 with Respiratory Failure and the need for noninvasive or mechanical ventilation. Mortality rates as high as 80% have been reported among those who require mechanical ventilation, despite best available intensive care. Patients with severe COVID-19 by FDA definition who have not developed respiratory failure be treated with nebulized ZYESAMI™ (aviptadil acetate, a synthetic version of Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide (VIP)) 100 μg 3x daily plus Standard of Care vs. placebo + Standard of Care using an FDA 501(k) cleared mesh nebulizer. The primary outcome will be progression in severity of COVID-19 (i.e. critical OR severe progressing to critical) over 28 days. Secondary outcomes will include blood oxygenation as measured by pulse oximetry, dyspnea, exercise tolerance, and levels of TNFα IL-6 and other cytokines.

Lung surfactant is present in the lungs. It covers the alveolar surface where it reduces the work of breathing and prevents the lungs from collapsing. In some respiratory diseases and in patients that require ventilation this substance does not function normally. This study will introduce surfactant to the patients lungs via the COVSurf Drug Delivery System

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the end of 2019 has seen numerous patients experiencing severe acute lung injury (ALI), which developed into severe respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The mortality was as high as 20% -40%. Due to the lack of effective antiviral treatments, supporting treatment is the predominant therapy for COVID-19 pneumonia. Its cure is essentially dependent on the patient's immunity. While the immune system eliminates the virus, numerous inflammatory cytokines are produced and a cytokine storm occurs in severe cases. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play an important role in injury repair and immune regulation, showing advantageous prospects in the treatment of COVID-19 pneumonia. MSCs prevent cytokine storms by retarding the TNF-α pathway, alleviate sepsis by modulating macrophages, neutrophils, NK cells, DC cells, T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes. After infused, MSCs aggregate in the lungs, improve the lung microenvironment, protect alveolar epithelia, and improve pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary function.

This trial is designed to determine if the inflammation modulating effect of vagus nerve stimulation can improve pulmonary function and limit progression to ARDS in hospitalized COVID-19 hospitalized patients.

The study of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detected in exhaled air is an innovative research area for respiratory diseases. This analysis can be done by the technique of electronic nose, simpler and faster, which provides an idea of the general profile of the VOCs without identifying them. The VOCs in exhaled air in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection are analysed in this study, using electronic noses.

In December 2019, a new viral disease called COVID-19 emerged. It is caused by the new corona virus SARS-CoV-2. It was initially described in the chinese city of Wuhan. In the following months, the disease developed into a pandemic, which is currently an immense international challenge. So far, there is little scientific evidence on risk stratification, especially on the prognostic value of biomarkers (laboratory-chemical, clinical and digital) with regard to clinical deterioration of patients with COVID-19. Further scientific studies are needed to establish optimal risk stratification and early detection of clinical deterioration. In this study, the investigators aim to observe patients with COVID-19 via SmartWatches on top of their clinical routine. The investigators aim to determine, whether the addition of SmartWatches enhances risk stratification, early detection of complications and prognostics in patients with COVID-19, who have cardiovascular diseases or receive medication with arrhythmogenic risk.

The current COVID-19 pandemic, this is especially since the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is thought to occur mainly through respiratory droplets generated by coughing and sneezing, by direct contact with contaminated surfaces and because in a large number of patients COVID-19 disease may be asymptomatic. As recommended by the CDC medical personnel should be equipped with full personal protective equipment (PPE) for AGP in contact with suspected/confirmed COVID-19 patient. Therefore, it is reasonable to search for the most effective methods of intravascular access in those conditions.
