Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

The current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic is complicated by pneumonia (15 to 20% of cases) requiring hospitalization with oxygen therapy. Almost 20 to 25% of hospitalized patients require intensive care and resuscitation; half die. The main cause of death is acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, some deaths have been linked to pulmonary embolism (PE). Recognition of PE is important because there is specific treatment to limit its own mortality. The identification of biological parameters of hemostasis predictive of thromboembolic disease is crucial in these patients. To evaluate the frequency of PE in the patients having to be hospitalized is to practice of a systematic thoracic angiography scanner in the patients having no contra-indication for its realization, as well as during hospitalization in patients deteriorating without any other obvious cause. The thromboembolic events and disturbances of the coagulation system described in patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonitis suggest that this viral infection is associated with an increase in the activation of coagulation contributing to the occurrence of thrombosis and especially from PE.

The pressure on care and the demand for critical decision-making generated by the current SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic, together with the situation of extreme social alarm and the adverse conditions in which care work must be promoted at this time, draw an extreme scenario in which action is urgently needed to alleviate emotional overload, acute stress reactions and other affective pathologies or psychosomatic reactions that may eventually lead to post-traumatic stress situations. This eventuality is being observed massively among professionals from different groups and levels of responsibility. In the case of healthcare personnel, it should be added that the care of non-COVID19 patients (of all pathologies and conditions) is clearly compromised and it is up to the professionals as a whole to make critical decisions and exercise a professional practice that is radically different from what has usually been done, which may require the application of undesirable triage criteria that are difficult for everyone to assume. Healthcare professionals and other essential personnel for healthcare and social-healthcare work (including personnel from external companies) are being subjected to emotional tensions and extraordinary, high-intensity work demands. Without professionals who feel supported and with moral strength, care will be even more compromised. The current scenario makes us think of many critical situations that are occurring as a result of the overload experienced. It is essential to act in order to counteract the devastating effect of this health crisis on health professionals and those who support them in their care work.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has widely and rapidly spread around the world, overwhelming intensive care units and health care capacity. While the physical risk (e.g. pneumonia, respiratory breakdown) is getting the most scientific and clinical attention, this outbreak also has significant mental health risks and extreme psychological fear-related responses. Among the general population, there are high-risk groups as elderly people, disabled individuals and people with previous exposure to trauma (e.g., people with military experience). Veterans are among the subgroups who are high risk for PTSD and other mental health problem. The overarching goal of this study is to examine the efficacy of an online, largescale, brief video-based intervention in reducing fear and stress and improving help seeking behavior in relate to COVID-19.

The current study will examine the impact of frequent social interaction through communication technologies during COVID-19 pandemic in the cognitive status of socially-isolated older adults with and without cognitive impairment. Patients will take place in an experimental crossover study, participants will complete one month of an intervention and one month of as passive control. The goal of this study is to determine: A.) if frequent social interaction through ICT during COVID-19 pandemic will have a significant positive impact in cognitive performance on testing, and B.) how social isolation and cognitive status influence misconceptions around the current pandemic.

Recent studies have shown that some individuals may be asymptomatic but continue to shed the COVID-19 virus. These individuals may represent a population that can unknowingly transmit the virus. Healthcare workers (HCW) may acquire COVID-19 from the community or from possibly infected patients. It is important to gather data with respect to this to further understand the prevalence of asymptomatic carriage in individuals who work in research facilities, offices and clinical areas of hospitals and research facilities/institutes since this has important implications for infection control, as well as staff and patient safety. The purpose of this study is to test whether a proportion of these individuals may be asymptomatic shedders of the COVID-19 virus.

The Canadian Paediatric Society recommends breastfeeding during COVID-19 infection. Human milk is the best form of infant nutrition providing significant protection against many illnesses for term and preterm infants. When mothers of hospitalized infants are unable to supply their milk, the recommended supplement is human donor milk. The impact of a pandemic on human milk banking is unknown. This study seeks to address this public health issue. Donor milk will be collected from the Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank at Sinai Health System in Toronto. Samples will be analyzed for the COVID-19 virus specific nucleic acid and antibody in real-time and results will be immediately disseminated to relevant organizations to inform local, national and international guidelines surrounding donor milk banking to protect the health of infants.
