Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

COVID-19 is increasingly affecting children but convalescent plasma (CP) has not been adequately studied in children to date. The study will determine safety of convalescent plasma for pediatric patients with severe, or at high risk for severe, COVID-19 disease.
Ampio Pharmaceuticals. Inc.
This is a Phase 1 randomized study to evaluate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of IV Ampion in improving the clinical course and outcomes of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 infection who require supplemental oxygen.
Instituto de Medicina Regenerativa
This is a pilot phase, open label, non-randomized study for the treatment of ARDS in patients infected with COVID-19. Subjects will be enrolled and treated with one dose of mesenchymal stem cells and follow-up will occur 90 days post-treatment.
Central Adelaide Local Health Network Incorporated
This is a study to test a new vaccine (Covax-19) against COVID-19. COVID-19 is a potentially deadly disease that is caused by a new strain of coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. To date, SARS-CoV-2 has infected over 4 million people worldwide resulted in the deaths of over three hundred thousand people.
Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority
This clinical study will assess the safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity of 2 dose levels of mRNA-1273 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (SARS-COV-2) vaccine in adults 18 years of age or older.
Clover Biopharmaceuticals AUS Pty Ltd
This is a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, first-in-human (FIH) study to assess safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity of SCB-2019 at multiple dose levels, administered as 2 injections IM in healthy subjects. Each study vaccine dose level will be evaluated with and without adjuvant.
Hoxworth Blood Center
The purpose of this research study is to learn more about the use of viral specific T-lymphocytes (VSTs) when given in the presence of COVID-19 signs and symptoms, caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2. VSTs are cells specially designed to fight viral infections. These cells are created from a blood sample collected from a donor who has recovered from COVID-19 infection. VSTs are investigational meaning that they are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). COVID-19 is a new virus and treatment options are evolving rapidly. VSTs have been successfully used to treat many different viral infections and may be beneficial in treating COVID-19 in the absence of other treatments.
University of Oxford
A phase 2/3 study to determine the efficacy, safety and immunogenicity of the candidate Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 in healthy UK volunteers.
Janssen Vaccines & Prevention B.V.
The study will evaluate the efficacy of Ad26.COV2.S in the prevention of molecularly confirmed moderate to severe/critical COVID-19, as compared to placebo, in adult participants.
University of Utah
The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of processed human amniotic fluid as a treatment for COVID-19.
