Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

A multicenter, 3-arm randomized dose finding study in the UK to evaluate safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of a vaccine candidate against Covid-19. 150 healthy volunteers will be enrolled and receive two shots of the vaccine candidate. All participants who receive two doses of the vaccine candidate will be invited to participate in the Booster phase.
Arcturus Therapeutics, Inc.
This is a Phase 2, randomized, placebo-controlled, and observer-blind study in healthy adults. The study will evaluate the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of the SARS-CoV-2 RNA vaccine candidate against COVID-19: As 2 doses (at two different dose levels), separated by 28 days or as 1 dose In adults 18 years of age and older
United States Department of Defense
This study is designed to evaluate three dose levels of Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Immunoglobulin Intravenous (Human) (COVID-HIGIV) for safety and pharmacokinetics (PK) in healthy adults. Twenty-eight healthy adult subjects will be enrolled into the study to receive a single dose of COVID-HIGIV or placebo with 84 days of safety and PK follow-up post-administration.
Sheba Medical Center
As Israel is the first country to widely vaccinate its population using the mRNA vaccine against COVID-19, evaluating its influence on ovarian reserve is essential .
Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations
This is a first-in-human, Phase I/II, randomized, placebo-controlled, observer-blinded, age-escalating study to assess the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of a SK SARS-CoV-2 recombinant protein nanoparticle vaccine (GBP510) adjuvanted with Alum in healthy younger and older adults.

Rationale: COVID-19 is associated with severely increased morbidity and mortality in patients with severely impaired kidney function, on dialysis or alive with a kidney transplant. Therefore, effective SARS-CoV-2 vaccination would be of great clinical importance in these patients. However, SARS-CoV-2 vaccination studies have excluded patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) so-far. Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in patients with CKD stages 4/5, on dialysis or alive with a kidney transplant as compared to controls. Study design: prospective, controlled multicenter study Study population: 175 patients with CKD stages 4/5 (eGFR < 30 ml/min/1.73m2), 175 on dialysis , 300 alive with a kidney transplant and 200 controls (partners or sibblings of patients) Intervention: SARS-CoV-2 vaccination according to standard of care. Blood will be drawn at 4 different time points (baseline and at day 28, month 6 and in a subset 28 days after a third vaccination). Main study parameters/endpoints: The primary endpoint is the antibody based immune response on day 28 after the second vaccination. Participants will be classified as responders or non-responders based on a spike (S)1 specific antibody levels of >=10 or
Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile
The study will evaluate the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of two vaccination schedules of an inactivated vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 infection in adults. Two doses of the vaccine will be administered in a 0,14 and a 0,28-day schedule. Follow-up of safety and efficacy will be assessed for 12 months after the first dose. Immunogenicity will be studied in a subgroup of participants.
CureVac
The primary objective of the randomized observer-blinded phase 2b/3 part of this trial is to demonstrate the efficacy of a 2-dose schedule of CVnCoV in the prevention of first episodes of virologically-confirmed cases of COVID-19 of any severity in SARS-CoV-2 naïve participants. The primary objective of the open-label phase of this trial is to evaluate safety in all participants ≥ 18 years of age remaining in the trial after unblinding.
Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Industrial Development Co. Ltd.
This is a phase II, randomized, placebo-controlled, observer-blinded study of the safety and immunogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine (BNT162b2) in Chinese healthy population. After randomization, the trial for each participant will last for approximately 13 months. Screening period is 2 weeks prior to randomization (Day -14 to Day 0), and two doses of either SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (BNT162b2) or placebo will be given intramuscularly (IM) separated by 21 days.

Currently there are no proven treatments or vaccines for COVID-19 and care of the COVID patients is largely supportive involving treatment of symptoms such as fever with antipyretics, secondary bacterial chest infection with antibiotics and meticulous management of comorbid conditions. Several repurposed and new drugs have been investigated for treatment of COVID-19, however, none have been confirmed to be efficacious. These drugs include the antimalarials (chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine), antivirals such as remdesivir and favipiravir and antiretroviral combination therapies such lopinavir/ritonavir. There is emerging evidence to support the use of COVID convalescent plasma for the treatment of COVID-19. There is need to leverage the blood transfusion services in countries and this is beginning to happen on the continent.
