Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

The Canadian Paediatric Society recommends breastfeeding during COVID-19 infection. Human milk is the best form of infant nutrition providing significant protection against many illnesses for term and preterm infants. When mothers of hospitalized infants are unable to supply their milk, the recommended supplement is human donor milk. The impact of a pandemic on human milk banking is unknown. This study seeks to address this public health issue. Donor milk will be collected from the Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank at Sinai Health System in Toronto. Samples will be analyzed for the COVID-19 virus specific nucleic acid and antibody in real-time and results will be immediately disseminated to relevant organizations to inform local, national and international guidelines surrounding donor milk banking to protect the health of infants.

This Phase 2/3 trial evaluates four treatment strategies for non-critically ill hospitalized participants (not requiring ICU admission and/or mechanical ventilation) with SARS CoV-2 infection, in which participants will receive NA-831 or Atazanavir with or without Dexamethasone.

This is a research study to see how safe and effective decidual stromal cells are in treating patients with respiratory failure (breathing problem where not enough oxygen is passed from the lungs into the blood) caused by COVID-19.

Steroids has shown benefits in COVID19 patients in observational studies. We hypothesized that early use of corticosteroids, low dose, in mild disease, can decrease progression to respiratory failure and death.

The aim of this study is to determine if Povidone iodine (PVP-I) rinses and throat gargles or a PVP-I gel forming nasal spray compared to a placebo (a treatment that has no physical effect to a person) is an effective treatment for patients diagnosed with COVID-19. These patients have been diagnosed with mild/moderate COVID-19 symptoms and sent home for self-isolation. Patients will be instructed to take either of the two treatments or placebo twice daily for two weeks and have follow up visits 2 and 4 weeks after. The participants will also complete study related procedures such as saliva sample collection, and two questionnaires throughout the study period. The investigators hypothesize that COVID 19 positive participants who use either of the Povidone - Iodine treatment will have a reduction in their viral load, develop a negative oral mucosa sample and improve their clinical symptoms.

This multi-center, open, randomized study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of BDB-001 injection in severe COVID-19 with severe pneumonia, or acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome. Patients will be randomized to two treatment arms (Arm A: Conventional treatment + BDB-001; Arm B: Conventional treatment alone).

Pharmacological therapies of proven efficacy in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are still lacking. Since two clinical stages of COVID-19 are emerging, an early one with typical clinical characteristics of a viral infection (fever, malaise, cough) and a later one with pneumonia leading to progressive respiratory failure, associated with heavy, cytokine-mediated, inflammation, an intervention by a compound possessing both antiviral activity and immunomodulatory effects would be most effective at the earliest possible stage. The purpose of this clinical trial is to test the efficacy of Interferon-β-1a (IFNβ-1a), in COVID-19 patients in an open label, randomized clinical trial. The design of the study is to test IFNβ-1a in addition to standard of care compared with standard of care alone. The primary outcome is the time to negative conversion of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-CoronaVirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) nasopharyngeal swabs.

This is a mechanistic, observational, prospective, case and control study, to compare platelet aggregation, analyzed by Multiplate-ADP, in hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19 versus healthy controls. Thus will be included 60 patients who present with respiratory symptoms within 72 hours of hospitalization and confirmation of the diagnosis of COVID-19 by laboratory method (RT -PCR and / or positive serology for SARS-CoV-2 - COVID group); this group will be compared to 60 healthy individuals (asymptomatic and with negative SARS-CoV-2 serology), matched by sex and age to the previous group.
