Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

This is a prospective observational parallel group cohort study that will aim to recruit 220 participants who were admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 between 1st March 2020 and 30th June 2020 (Group A - 110 participants who had COVID-19 with AKI; Group B - 110 participants who had COVID-19 without AKI). Data from groups A and B will be compared with AKI and non-AKI groups from an existing study database (ARID study, n=1125) who were recruited before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic (recruitment 2013-2016) and who have all completed at least three years of follow up. Participants who have recovered from COVID-19 will be matched for analysis to participants from the ARID study for AKI status, baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) stage, age (± 5 years) and presence of diabetes. Potential participants will receive a letter of invitation along with a comprehensive participant information sheet (PIS).

Teleconsultation (TLC) being a new method of anesthesia consultation, deployed as an emergency in healthcare facilities in the Covid context, it has never been evaluated either in terms of feasibility or in terms of quality. An initial assessment will highlight the pitfalls and difficulties encountered and suggest areas for improvement.

A) Phase II: Early viral responses to triazavirin In hospitalised patients with mild-moderate COVID-19, in addition to standard of care therapy, treatment with triazavirin 250mg three times daily for five days, the slope of increase of the Ct values of serial nasopharyngeal swabs to 12 days after initiation of treatment will be ≥24% higher than in hospitalised patients receiving standard of care treatment only. B) Phase III: Efficacy of triazavirin to improve clinical outcomes In hospitalised patients with mild-moderate laboratory proven COVID-19, in addition to standard of care therapy, treatment with triazavirin 250mg three times daily for five days will reduce a composite outcome - death; ICU admission or mechanical ventilation; or prolonged duration of admission- by ≥29% when compared to the composite outcome in hospitalised patients receiving standard of care therapy only.

The clinical guidance for 90 percent of infected COVID-19 adult patients who do not meet eligibility for inpatient admission is to self-isolate. To support these patients, alternatives to in-person care are needed to manage an unpredictable clinical course; identify and intercept patients rapidly deteriorating at home, prevent viral spread during in-person visits; and minimize future surges in emergency departments (EDs). In addition, fingertip pulse oximeters have been proposed to improve in-home early detection of respiratory deteriorations but are untested and the operational infrastructure to support large-scale monitoring is limited. While telemedicine has been widely adopted during the pandemic as an alternative to conventional outpatient care, limited telemedicine access may be exacerbating observed disparities for Black and Latino patients. In our health system, Black and Latino patients used video-visits 15 percent less often than white patients. Text messaging and phone calls may improve healthcare access for communities of color, but the evidence for these telecommunication modalities to be effective and improve equity are limited. The University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) developed and deployed COVID Watch to improve access to health care for COVID-19 patients who are self-isolating at home. COVID Watch sends twice-daily, scheduled text messages to assess patients for shortness of breath using a clinical algorithm to determine whether patients need an urgent escalation to a team of dedicated, on-call nurses within one hour. These nurses are supported by an on-call team of clinicians who can conduct urgent phone or video assessments. Patients can also trigger the algorithmic assessment independent of the scheduled messages. As of May 21, 2020, COVID Watch has managed 3,628 COVID-19 patients at home, of which 1,295 are confirmed COVID-19 positive; of these, 61 percent are Black or Latino, higher than the proportion of all UPHS COVID-19 positive patients that are Black or Latino (55 percent).

The Multi-arm trial of Inflammatory Signal Inhibitors for COVID-19 (MATIS) study is a two-stage, open-label, randomised controlled trial assessing the efficacy of ruxolitinib (RUX) and fostamatinib (FOS) individually, compared to standard of care in the treatment of COVID-19 pneumonia. The primary outcome is the proportion of hospitalised patients progressing from mild or moderate to severe COVID-19 pneumonia. Patients are treated for 14 days and will receive follow-up assessment at 7, 14 and 28 days after the first study dose. Patients with mild or moderate COVID-19 pneumonia will be recruited. Initially, n=171 (57 per arm) patients will be recruited in Stage 1. Following interim analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of the treatments, approximately n=285 (95 per arm) will be recruited during Stage 2.

The non-essential and non-urgent follow-up consultations of patients living with HIV were postponed or transformed into "teleconsultation" or exchanges of e-mails between practitioners and patients during COVID-19 epidemic. This change in care can have an impact on follow-up and access to treatment for PVVIH.

On 30 January 2020, WHO declared the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern. Compared to SARS-CoV, which caused an outbreak of SARS in 2003, SARS-CoV-2 has a higher transmission capacity. Although the clinical manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 are dominated by respiratory symptoms, some patients have severe cardiovascular damage. In addition, patients with underlying cardiovascular disease may be at increased risk of death. Therefore, understanding the impairments caused by SARS-CoV-2 to the cardiovascular system and the underlying mechanisms is of the utmost importance. Circulating endothelial cells (CECs) are generally considered markers of lesions and may be non-invasive markers of pulmonary vascular dysfunction during SARS-CoV-2 infection. Another marker of endothelial activation could be circulating extracellular vesicles. They could also be involved in the spread of the virus. Thus this project proposes to study different aspects of the diagnosis and pathophysiology of SARS-CoV-2. We propose to fully study activation state of coagulation and endothelium on a plasma and cellular side in patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2/COVID19. The different forms of the disease will be included: without lung disease, with a more or less severe lung disease, i.e. having evolved or not towards acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Extensive research of biomarkers will be compared to the detection of the virus in the respiratory tract as well as in the blood. This work will contribute to a better description of disease pathophysiology and should allow us to identify a patient profile in whom preventive or curative anticoagulant therapy could be considered.
