Around the world, researchers are working extremely hard to develop new treatments and interventions for COVID-19 with new clinical trials opening nearly every day. This directory provides you with information, including enrollment detail, about these trials. In some cases, researchers are able to offer expanded access (sometimes called compassionate use) to an investigational drug when a patient cannot participate in a clinical trial.
The information provided here is drawn from ClinicalTrials.gov. If you do not find a satisfactory expanded access program here, please search in our COVID Company Directory. Some companies consider expanded access requests for single patients, even if they do not show an active expanded access listing in this database. Please contact the company directly to explore the possibility of expanded access.
Emergency INDs
To learn how to apply for expanded access, please visit our Guides designed to walk healthcare providers, patients and/or caregivers through the process of applying for expanded access. Please note that given the situation with COVID-19 and the need to move as fast as possible, many physicians are requesting expanded access for emergency use. In these cases, FDA will authorize treatment by telephone and treatment can start immediately. For more details, consult FDA guidance. Emergency IND is the common route that patients are receiving convalescent plasma.
Search Tips
To search this directory, simply type a drug name, condition, company name, location, or other term of your choice into the search bar and click SEARCH. For broadest results, type the terms without quotation marks; to narrow your search to an exact match, put your terms in quotation marks (e.g., “acute respiratory distress syndrome” or “ARDS”). You may opt to further streamline your search by using the Status of the study and Intervention Type options. Simply click one or more of those boxes to refine your search.

COVID-19 pandemic has developed worldwide in less than 4 months. The clinical presentations are variable widely, ranging from simple rhinitis to major lung damage that can lead to death. In many countries involved in the ongoing health disaster due to SARS-CoV-2 infection, hospital are overloaded. In this context, the decision to hospitalize or to manage COVID-19 patients at home is crucial and defining reliable and consensual criteria is a major issue. HOME-CoV study is a multicentre quasi-experimental interventional study, before and after implementation of a help-decision making rule (HOME-CoV rule), developed via the Delphi method. Our main hypothesis is that a strategy based on the consensual HOME-CoV rule compared to current practice is at least as safe as regards the 7-day-rate of adverse events (safety criterion) and more effective as regards the rate of patients eventually managed as outpatients (efficacy criterion).

SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, now being administered to skilled nursing facility (SNF) residents and staff, has highly variable acceptance between facilities. The investigators need to develop and disseminate effective strategies to increase vaccination immediately. For SNF residents and staff, the investigators will develop and implement a scalable multi-pronged intervention that educates, builds trust and supports the informed consent process aimed to increase SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. The investigators will conduct a cluster randomized trial to compare the effect of electronic messaging and education (i.e., usual care) versus a multi-pronged 'high touch' intervention to reduce vaccine hesitancy in skilled nursing facility staff and residents among a random sample of facilities across four SNF chains. As part of the 'high touch' intervention, the investigators will identify and train local opinion leaders. The investigators will offer these leaders assistance through real-time support for questions and provide consenting specialists. During the second wave of vaccination, the investigators will provide the intervention facilities with positive reinforcement for staff and will identify local champions to garner support and empowerment of staff. Finally, in the intervention facilities, the investigators will provide additional funds to support COVID-19 testing, in order that facilities have access to enough testing kits for patient or staff who develops symptoms following vaccination. This trial will be randomized within four SNF chains in order to evaluate the effect of a multi-pronged strategy to improve SARS-CoV-2 vaccine acceptance among direct care staff and long-stay nursing home residents. In four chains, eligible facilities will undergo randomization between usual care versus adding the 'high touch' intervention, implemented in two waves. Randomization and roll out of the intervention will occur at the facility level. The investigators hypothesize that: (1) the intervention will increase vaccination of SNF residents by at least 10 percentage points versus facilities usual care alone; (2) staff of SNFs with the intervention will have at least a 10 percentage point greater vaccine uptake of vaccine than staff in SNFs that do not participate in the high touch intervention; and (3) within intervention SNFs, improvements in vaccine uptake will be similar across staff and resident race/ethnicities.

The healthcare workforce is amongst the most stressed in the United Kingdom (UK). The Coronavirus (COVID-19) health pandemic has increased depression, anxiety, insomnia and distress in this population. Gratitude interventions have been shown to improve wellbeing, alongside reducing risk factors associated with the aforementioned mental health conditions. This online Randomised Control Trial of 219 healthcare staff, will investigate the effects of a gratitude intervention on wellbeing (gratitude, positive affect, happiness) and psychological distress (depression and negative affect). Means of pre- and post-outcome measures of two groups (gratitude journal and control) will be assessed for differences utilising t-tests.

The main objective of this project is: 1. To assess the impact of COVID-19 on the brain and executive functioning. Twenty adult subjects of UZ Brussels (volunteers), who needed intensive care due to COVID-19 (n=10) or exhibited mild symptoms due to COVID-19 (n=10), will be recruited after hospital discharge. After signing an informed consent the subjects will undergo brain scans (T1, DTI, SWI, DWI, FLAIR MRI and rsfMRI), an emotion regulation task and a neurocognitive test battery. The latter test battery will be performed using an iPad and will test different neurocognitive functions such as memory, abstract thinking, spatial orientation and attention. The duration of the test battery is 18min. The total duration of one trial is estimated at one hour and a half. All tests are planned at the department of Radiology-Magnetic Resonance (UZ Brussel). After three months patients will visit the department of Radiology-Magnetic Resonance a second time for the same experimental trial. Additionally, a matched control group (n = 20; non covid or ICU patients) will be included and undergo the same tests in order to compare the results of the brain scans, emotional regulation task and neurocognitive test battery with results of both Covid-groups. Next to objective data, questionnaires will be filled out, i.e. visual analogue scales of mental and physical fatigue, Profile of Mood States and some additional return to work questions.

Social settings of Pakistan is unique in the sense that it is composed of multilingual, multicultural and different ethnicities. Also their believes and faiths are so unpredictable. It is therefore observed that this social phenomenon affects the acceptability of new things in this area. Polio vaccination has not worked so well in the past. Iodized salt acceptability has also been criticized in the last decades and is a matter of controversy till now. This behavior has also developed before the commencement of vaccination of COVID-19 in Pakistan, as there are many rumors and fears circulating via social media amongst Pakistan. What will be the acceptance rate for this vaccination, the time will decide.

Currently, there are few approved treatments for COVID-19, antiretroviral (remdesivir) and corticoids. With about 15% of COVID-19 patients suffering from severe disease health system will be overwhelmed. Treatments approaches to inhibit viral replication (antiretroviral and extended spectrum antiviral drugs), such as Remdesivir and Hydroxychloroquine are being used. In severe cases, by CT scans investigators are able to observe that these patients seem to be dying with fibrosis and lung vasculitis. It is hypothesised that targeting vasculitis and lung inflammation secondary to the viral infection may help patients' survival (reducing mortality) and/or decrease time in mechanical ventilators. It is proposed a 4-arm trial, converted to 2 after interim analysis (60 patients for the initial phase, sample size recalculation after initial analysis and 2 arms beyond). In initial phase, IL-6 indirect inhibitor (colchicine), in first arm; IL-17 inhibitor, an innovative target never tested (at this moment) in COVID-19 severe patients, in second study arm. Both approaches (indirect IL-6 and Il-17) are related to modulation of inflammatory immune response. Finally, in third arm, IL-2 low dose. This cytokine was identified as Treg upregulation. Treg levels decrease in hepatitis C virus (HCV) associated vasculitis and increase in vasculitis resolution. In fourth arm, control group, standard of care. Initially, for the first 60 included patients, the study will comprise 4 arms (15 patients per arm, randomization ratio 1:1:1:1). An interim effectiveness and safety analysis at this point will guide the selection of one single treatment strategy (adaptative study) to be carried on after that, comparatively with the control group. The multi-site trial planned enrollment duration of 4-6 months and for each participant will be approximately 4 weeks. This trial will bring complementary data to the global effort in COVID-19 cases resolution.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a pandemic of unprecedented proportions with an exponential increase in incidence. Airway epithelium infection caused by coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) triggers a cascade of difficult-to-control reactions, a so-called "cytokine storm". In contrast to the previously used method of external beam radiation therapy for patients at high risk of a cytokine storm, in present study a different dose delivery mechanism through inhalation of 99mTc-labeled carbon ultrafine aerosol obtained from a TechnegasPlus generator is used. By utilizing anthropometric phantoms the dosimetric characteristics of the applied technique and obtained the coefficients of the transition from the count rate over the area of interest to the activity contained in this area (in kBq) were studied. By observing a group of healthy volunteers after inhalation of 99mTc-labeled carbon ultrafine aerosol, the accumulated dose in the human lungs under internal irradiation of 99mTc was determined. A novel technique has been developed and the possibility of using inhaled low-dose radionuclide therapy in the complex treatment of patients with COVID-19 - associated pneumonia has been studied. As a result, a significant improvement of hematological parameters in the group of patients after inhalation of 99mTc-labeled carbon ultrafine aerosol as compared to the control group is expected.
